S. Jersey Girls: Tues. S.J. girls: Paul VI's LaGrotta ties S.J. mark

Rosie LaGrotta had more than one reason to celebrate on Tuesday. LaGrotta allowed a run on five hits to help the fourth-seeded Paul VI softball team beat No. 12 Bishop Eustace at home, 12-1, in the South Jersey Non-Public A quarterfinals.

LaGrotta allowed a run on five hits to help the fourth-seeded Paul VI softball team beat No. 12 Bishop Eustace at home, 12-1, in the South Jersey Non-Public A quarterfinals.

LaGrotta also put herself in the record books. She earned her 79th career win to tie the South Jersey record.

LaGrotta, a senior who joined Paul VI this season, received a ball signed by her teammates for reaching the milestone. A Millersville recruit, she previously pitched at Sacred Heart, where she won a Non-Public B state title and was the now-closed school's all-time winningest pitcher.

Paul VI will play at top-seeded St. John Vianney in the semifinals Friday.

S.J. Group 3 Semifinals

Julia Voluntad pitched a no-hitter to give No. 4 Delsea a 1-0 home win over No. 8 Cumberland.

Voluntad, a junior righthander, struck out 10 and walked four. She retired the side in order in the second, third, fifth, and sixth innings.

Junior rightfielder Megan Geisert singled home Alicia Serrano from third in the sixth for the only run.

Hammonton 12, Lacey 2 - Raelynn Genovese recorded her 100th hit, a fourth-inning double, during the sixth-seeded Blue Devils' home victory over the seventh-seeded Lions.

Genovese finished 2 for 3 with a walk and three runs. Morgan DiVello went 4 for 4, including two doubles, and batted in four runs and scored three. Madison Mathes went 3 for 3 with a triple and knocked in five.

S.J. Group 2 Semifinals

Lynnsie Collins smacked a walk-off single up the middle to score Jenn Cimino from second base, and top-seeded Buena edged No. 4 Middle Township, 4-3.

Collins finished the day 4 for 4 with three doubles. Winning pitcher Lauren Dwyer went 3 for 3. Maddie Ellis tripled for Middle Township.

S.J. Non-Public B Quarterfinals

Carly Testa mashed three doubles, scored three runs, and drove in four in second-seeded St. Joseph's 17-0 triumph over No. 10, visiting Doane Academy.

Taylor Sirolli was 3 for 4 with two runs and four RBIs.

C.J. Group 2 Semifinals

Anna Price belted an RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning to give No. 2 Bordentown a 1-0 home win over No. 3 Manasquan.

Kaitlin Lupinacci scored the winning run after being placed on second for the international tiebreaker. She was bunted to third before Price's single.
