Wed. S.J. boys' and girls' roundup: Cinnaminson ousts top seed

Zack Palin posted 10 kills and seven digs and Chris Bastos contributed two aces, six kills, and seven digs for the Pirates, who advanced to Friday's final against No. 2 seed Christian Brothers Academy.

South Jersey Tournament. Kevin Sullivan filled the stat sheet with 16 kills, six blocks, four assists and 23 digs, as second-seeded Eastern overcame a slow start to put away No. 3 seed Williamstown, 2-1, in a semifinal.

The Braves held the upper hand early thanks to the performance of Dan Collins (11 kills, 13 assists, 2 blocks, 24 digs).

In the other semifinal, No. 4 seed Cherry Hill East fell, 2-0, at top-seeded Southern Regional.

Boys' Tennis

The South Jersey Interscholastic Championships doubles final was an all-Haddonfield affair, with Luke Grabiak and Isaac Anderson battling past fellow Bulldogs Matt Godlewski and Sean Campbell, 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 6-4, for the title.

Baseball

Winning pitcher Ryan McKinstry delivered the key hit in a four-run sixth inning and reliever Kevin Smith wriggled out of a two-on, none-out jam in the seventh to preserve GCIT's 5-2 victory over Passaic County Tech in the championship game of the New Jersey Vocational Tournament at East Brunswick Tech.

GCIT (20-5) went ahead, 3-2, on McKinstry's two-run single, and held on for its second consecutive title.

Camden County Tournament. Eastern captured its fourth consecutive title behind the shutout pitching of Mike Marchitto and Tyler Love's two RBIs, as the host Vikings downed Cherry Hill West, 4-0.

Olympic. Vinnie Nocella homered in batting 3 for 3 with three RBIs for Washington Township, which won the American Division title with a 6-4 victory at Lenape.

Walks and a wild pitch fueled Camden Catholic's four-run, seventh-inning rally, lifting the Irish over host Winslow Township, 11-9.

Burlington County. Mark Demko batted 3 for 3, including a game-winning, RBI single in the ninth inning, as Burlington Township outlasted host Riverside, 3-2.

Tri-County. Jim Candelora (2 RBIs) and John Griffin (2 runs) each doubled twice in Kingsway's 8-0 romp at Clearview.

Nonleague. John Brue homered and knocked in two runs for Gloucester Catholic in an 8-2 triumph at Buena.

Softball

Gabrielle Ashman scattered five hits and four walks and struck out 11, and Maple Shade used four-run rallies in the third and fourth innings to cruise to a 10-1 win at Westampton Tech in a Burlington County League clash.
