Sat. S.J. boys' and girls' roundup: Haddonfield hammers River Dell

Luke Pease scored four times and set up five goals for 10th-seeded Haddonfield, which recorded a dozen assists in sinking No. 23 River Dell, 20-11, Saturday in the opening round of the NJSIAA state Group 1 boys' lacrosse tournament.

State Group 4. Quinn Mehigan picked up two of his three goals in the first quarter for No. 14 seed Cherokee, and the Chiefs parlayed a fast start into an 11-6 victory over No. 19 seed Morris Knolls.

Colin McDonald had a hat trick along with one assist to lead Rancocas Valley's balanced attack, and the 10th-seeded Red Devils used a 10-4 spree over the second and third quarters to pull away from No. 23 Randolph, 13-7.

State Group 3. Kyle Borbi, Cory Munger, and Owen Demmerly accounted for 11 goals and 10 assists in seventh-seeded Shawnee's 20-1 rout of No. 26 Hightstown.

Megan Lacy won two events, including a meet record (5 minutes, 3.70 seconds) in the 1,600-meter run, and teammate Jess Woodard also picked up a pair of golds and established ing a new mark in the shot put (45 feet, 6 inches), as Cherokee captured the girls' team title at the Burlington County Open.

The Chiefs also claimed the boys' team championship, led by with Shawn Wilson, who finished first in the 1,600 and 3,200.

Maple Shade's Nick Burke set a meet record (44-93/4) in the triple jump.

Kevin Baxter pitched his sixth consecutive complete game and his St. Augustine teammates supplied plenty of offensive support, allowing the Hermits to topple Washington Township, 10-3, in a Joe Hartmann Diamond Classic quarterfinal at Deptford.

Joe Gatto homered with one runner aboard in a six-run fourth inning, and Mike Scimeca and Christian Carmolingo combined for four hits and four runs scored in St. Augustine's 13-hit attack.

The Hermits will face Cherokee in a semifinal on Sunday, 2 p.m., at Deptford.

Burlington County League Tournament. Dan Schurer worked out of a first-and-third jam in the top of the seventh inning by inducing a fly out to right field, cementing Moorestown's 7-6 win over Cinnaminson in the championship game at Waterfront Park in Trenton.

Buena senior righthander Brittany Scott, who opened the season by tossing a perfect game, added to her mastery in a 6-0 nonleague win over visiting Toms River South.

Scott struck out nine and did not walk a batter in notching her sixth no-hitter of the season - and second in two days.

In another nonleague game, Susan Wysocki fanned eight, walked one and shut out Holy Cross on one hit, as host Camden Catholic seized control early and cruised, 10-0. Wysocki also batted 3 for 4 and scored three runs.
