Fri. S.J. boys' roundup: Tennis hardware for Moorestown, Haddonfield

The Moorestown and Haddonfield boys' tennis teams continued their postseason dominance and added to their trophy cases on Friday with a pair of South Jersey championships.

Moorestown, which has won a sectional crown in every year except one since 1984, took home the Group 3 title by handing No. 2 seed Delsea its first loss of the season, 5-0.

In the match at Eastern, the top-seeded Quakers saw Ryan Dickerson and Pierce Cooper cruise to identical 6-0, 6-1 wins, and Tyler Blessing take third singles from Nick McBride, 6-0, 6-7 (4-7), 6-0.

Hamza Husain and Dan Schafhauser battled past Sebastian Calderon and Kevin Alexander, 6-2, 6-4, at first doubles. Jacob Fox and Peter Nicholson completed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at second doubles.

Haddonfield ran its sectional title streak to a perfect 10 years, as the top-seeded Bulldogs feasted on No. 2 seed Middle Township, 5-0, in the Group 2 title match at Pitman's Shertle Park.

Luke Grabiak's 7-6 (7-2), 6-0 triumph at third singles proved to be Haddonfield's toughest test.

South Jersey Non-Public B. Moorestown Friends' bid for a fourth consecutive sectional title came up short, as the top-seeded Foxes fell, 4-1, to No. 2 seed Gill St. Bernard's in Hamilton Township.

Jake Turner set the Gloucester Catholic single-game record with six goals, and the Rams took command with a 6-1, second-quarter spree in routing host Father Judge, 15-3, in a nonleague match.

Turner, a senior with 95 career goals, added three assists and eclipsed the previous single-game mark of five goals shared by six players.

Camden Catholic kept its title hopes alive and spoiled Bishop Eustace's celebration plans, as Pete Galiano's three-run homer in the first inning put the Irish ahead to stay in a 6-3 road victory.

Nick Browne belted a two-run homer for Bishop Eustace, which could have clinched the Olympic Conference National Division championship outright with a win.

The Crusaders are ensured of sharing the crown with the winner of Monday's game between the Irish and host Paul VI.

Cape-Atlantic. Bill Bendig walked the first batter of the game and was perfect the rest of the way, as the sophomore righthander kept Cape May Tech hitless in St. Joseph's 10-0 home win.

Bendig (2 for 2, 3 RBIs) also joined Mike Earling (3 for 3, 2 RBIs) in leading the Wildcats offense.

Tri-County. Nick Freijomil had two RBIs for host Delsea, which clinched at least a share of the Royal Division title by getting four late runs to rally past Clearview, 5-3.

Mike Pollastrelli batted 3 for 3, drove in two runs, and scored three times to highlight Williamstown's 9-5 win at Kingsway.

Colonial. Christian Walsh launched a three-run homer to back winning pitcher Ryan McGoldrick, as Sterling crushed host Collingswood, 10-2.

Nonleague. Tom Hildebrand's walk-off single capped a two-run, seventh-inning rally that lifted host Washington Township over Highland, 10-9.

Gateway's Nick Rutter tripled to open the first inning for his 100th career hit, and the host Gators scored five times in the opening frame en route to a 7-6 victory over Glassboro.

Giovanni Gussen's two-run single in the sixth inning put Gloucester Catholic ahead to stay in a 5-3 win at Sacred Heart.
