Pitman captures S. Jersey Group 1 tennis title

Pitman captured the South Jersey Group 1 boys' tennis title for the second time in three seasons Thursday, when the top-seeded Panthers nipped No. 2 seed Haddon Township, 3-2, in the championship match at Cherry Hill East.

Zac Castagna won at first singles, Torey Langlois prevailed at third singles, and the tandem of Sam Langlois and Guillermo Lopez pulled out a 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 victory at second doubles for Pitman.

South Jersey Non-Public B. Moorestown Friends' quest for a fourth consecutive sectional title remained on track, as the top-seeded Foxes blanked No. 4 seed Mater Dei, 5-0, in a semifinal.

Luke Timber took out Mark McCormick, 6-2, 6-3, at first singles to start Moorestown Friends on its way to a berth in Friday's final against second-seeded Gill St. Bernard's.

Golf

West Deptford clinched a share of the Colonial Conference regular-season championship by defeating Audubon, 175-205, giving the Eagles their first title in 10 seasons.

Kevin Brockway shot a five-over-par 41 to lead West Deptford, which finished in a first-place tie with Haddonfield.

Baseball

Andrew Schorr silenced Overbrook's bats, striking out 15 and walking three in pitching a no-hitter, and hit a solo home run to send host Audubon to a 4-0 win in the Colonial Conference.

Elsewhere in the Colonial, Robert Munce's two-out single brought home Pat Burns with the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth inning, helping Haddon Township outlast host Collingswood, 6-4.

Tri-County. Ridge Hermann homered twice in batting 3 for 4 with six RBIs, and Conner Dilks pitched a two-hit shutout as Pennsville pounded host Pitman, 7-0.

Brendan Phillips fanned nine in tossing a one-hit shutout and keyed Wildwood's offense with a single, a home run, three RBIs, and three runs scored as the Warriors clobbered host Clayton, 13-0.

In a slugfest that featured 33 runs and 27 hits - including nine for extra bases - host Deptford outscored Gloucester, 20-13. The Spartans' Eric Graham doubled twice in going 3 for 3 with five RBIs and two runs.

Cape-Atlantic. Mike Wray's one-out, bases-loaded single in the bottom of the eighth inning made host Ocean City a 6-5 winner over Oakcrest. Cody Stashak hit a two-run homer for the Falcons.

Burlington County Tournament. Host Moorestown scratched out single runs in the seventh and eighth innings to slip past Rancocas Valley, 5-4, for a berth in the championship.

Burlington County. Anthony Coniglio doubled in two runs in the sixth inning and struck out 13 while carrying a no-hitter into the seventh as host Burlington City edged Palmyra, 3-2.
