Eastern wide receiver/defensive back Darius Merriweather signed a national letter of intent Wednesday to attend Southern Illinois University on a football scholarship.

Merriweather will join Eastern graduate Ron Baines, a freshman cornerback, on the Salukis roster.

Southern Illinois is an FCS (formerly Division I-AA) program that competes in the Missouri Valley Conference with programs such as Youngstown State, North Dakota State, and Northern Iowa.

"It's a great spot for Darius," Eastern coach Dan Spittal said. "He's got a chance to do very well."

Also on Wednesday:

Delran offensive lineman Nick Zataveski signed with Lafayette and defensive back Josh Foster committed to Columbia.

Camden Catholic running back/linebacker Mike Blandon signed with Assumption College, a Division II program in Worcester, Mass.

Lenape offensive lineman Doug Gilbert signed with Division II West Chester.

Also, Moorestown's Andrew Lisa was inadvertently omitted from Wednesday's list of South Jersey football players who have committed to Division I college programs.

Lisa, a quarterback, has committed to Penn.
