Thurs. S.J. boys' roundup: Paul VI surges past Camden Catholic

Ron Curry scored a game-high 20 points and keyed a first-half surge that enabled top-ranked Paul VI to knock off ninth-ranked Camden Catholic, 55-47, on Thursday in Olympic Conference boys' basketball.

Curry scored eight in a 15-7 second-quarter run by the host Eagles, who also benefited from Roosevelt Cubbage's 17 points. Matt McElhatton (19 points) and Kyle Green (12) led the Irish, who battled back with an 18-12 third-quarter spurt.

Marc Schlessel tossed in 21 points, Jake Silpe contributed 13 points, four assists, and four steals, and fifth-ranked Cherry Hill East ran its record to 8-0 with a 56-44 home win over Cherokee. Conor Kelly made five three-point baskets in scoring 19 for the Chiefs, who trailed by five entering the final quarter.

Trevor Norton scored all of his 16 points in the first half, including four shots from beyond the arc, sending sixth-ranked Bishop Eustace to a 69-34 win over visiting Seneca. Sho DaSilva added 13 points and Carson Puriefoy scored 12 for the Crusaders, who opened the game with a 25-5 spree.

Second-ranked Eastern rolled, 69-39, at Washington Township behind the scoring of Mike Wilson (24 points) and Devon Bell (17).

Justice Davila led all scorers with 20 points, T.J. LaScala chipped in 17 points and six assists, and Jeff Lewis posted a double-double with 11 points and a dozen rebounds, highlighting Timber Creek's 61-56 triumph over visiting Cherry Hill West. Marquis Goodman scored 19 for the Lions.

Pennsauken placed four scorers in double figures, led by Julian Diaz with 14 points, to offset the 27-point effort by Winslow Township's Chris Williams and surprise the host Eagles, 69-62.

Brian Keller sank a pair of foul shots with 6 seconds left, giving him 25 points and sealing Triton's 60-56 comeback win at Shawnee.

Burlington County. Ronny Paden (30 points) and Tyrell Maloney (23) each made five three-point baskets in powering eighth-ranked Willingboro past visiting Bordentown, 78-57. Antonio Gilmore countered with 22 points for the Scotties.

Malcolm Mason drained five three-pointers in scoring 21 for Pemberton, which had just enough offense to hold off visiting Moorestown, 52-49.

Host Rancocas Valley used 19 points by Dom Twitty and 16 by Ben Hills to hold off Burlington Township, 65-59. The Falcons mounted a late charge behind the scoring of Jalon Wilson (21 points) and Kristoff Smith (15).

Alex Irvin and Joey Montalvo combined for 31 points as host Northern Burlington handed Holy Cross its first Patriot Division loss, 57-39.

Quinton Harris (19 points), Kevin Allison (15), and Cornell Miller (13) supplied the bulk of Florence's scoring, as the host Flashes outlasted New Egypt, 53-47, to take sole possession of first place in the Freedom Division.

Colonial. Davon Jones poured in 26 points, including 7-of-9 free-throw shooting in the final 2 minutes to seal Haddon Heights' 50-46 home win over Sterling.

Joe Palmer's basket with 10 seconds left gave him 21 points on the night and held up as the decisive score as Gateway trimmed host Audubon, 46-44.

Xavier Lundy had 26 points to lead 11 Paulsboro players in the scoring column, as the 10th-ranked Red Raiders shared the wealth in dealing Lindenwold a 63-45 road loss.

Freshman guards Jordan Wallace (16 points) and Tyree Mann-Barnes (15) established career highs for host Collingswood, but Overbrook came away with a 68-52 victory - thanks to James Bullock's scoring 14 of his 18 points in the second half.

Logan Murray and Trey Thatcher accounted for 46 points for Haddon Township in a 56-50 victory at Woodbury. Mike Smith's 21 points paced the Thundering Herd.

Tri-County. Tim Delaney and Eric Stafford scored 23 points apiece and combined for 22 rebounds, making host Pitman a 57-48 winner over Gloucester. The Lions' Stefano Okoro scored 20.

Freshman guard Fran Kinsey buried five threes in scoring a career-high 18 points, leading host Gloucester Catholic past GCIT, 51-36.

DaQuan Chase scored 11 of his 29 in the first quarter, paving the way for Penns Grove's 73-44 romp at Glassboro.
