Thurs. S.J. girls' and boys' roundup: Timber Creek tops Seneca

Top-seeded Timber Creek was pushed to the limit, but the Chargers and goalie Kate DeCaro were able to fend off No. 8 seed Seneca, 4-2 in penalty kicks, on Thursday in a NJSIAA South Jersey Group 3 girls' soccer quarterfinal.

Olivia McEachern cashed in a penalty kick in the first half for Timber Creek, Danielle Hubbs pulled Seneca even with 6 minutes to go in regulation, and the Olympic Conference National Division rivals remained deadlocked at 1-1 through two overtime periods.

DeCaro (seven saves) stopped two penalty kicks during the shootout, while McEachern joined teammates Kelly Farrell, Caitlyn Collins and Elise Pratt in converting their spot kicks.

In other South Jersey Group 3 quarterfinals:

Steph Toy's goal in double overtime pushed second-seeded Moorestown past No. 7 seed Oakcrest, 2-1. Rachel Steelman of Oakcrest and the Quakers' Annie Keim traded goals during regulation.

Sixth-seeded Ocean City saw its tournament run come to an end in a 2-0 loss at No. 3 seed Central Regional.

South Jersey Group 1. Maxie New knocked in Jewel Brown's crossing pass 4 minutes into overtime, giving sixth-seeded Clayton a 2-1 upset at No. 3 seed Pennsville.

Mandy Hall put the Clippers on the board first, scoring off a corner kick by Morgan Durham 7 minutes into the match. Pennsville pulled even midway through the first half on Chelsea Abhau's goal.

Kelly Roche and Patrice Maro each had a goal and an assist to back the shutout goaltending of Chrissy Ambrozy (four saves), as second-seeded Haddon Township advanced with a 3-0 win over No. 7 seed Cedar Creek.

Kendall Bernardini put Schalick ahead with a little over 25 minutes to go in regulation, and Nikki Adams added an insurance goal three minutes later to cap the fourth-seeded Cougars' 3-1 triumph over No. 5 seed Audubon.

Top-seeded Glassboro received scoring from six players in slamming No. 8 seed Gateway, 6-1.

South Jersey Group 2. Avenging an opening-season loss, third-seeded Delran used a goal by Megan Harvis midway through the second half to eliminate No. 6 seed Cinnaminson, 2-1. Harvis also assisted on the Bears' other goal, sending a corner kick into the box that Rachel Ceplo deposited in the first half.

Middle Township goalkeeper Olivia Salvo (five saves) shut down No. 7 seed Haddon Heights, and Jen Hicks snapped a scoreless tie in the second half to give the second-seeded Panthers a 1-0 victory.

Laurel Falana celebrated her return to the lineup after a three-week illness by registering a hat trick, and Katie Johnston and Kylie Kirk combined for three goals and five assists, as top-seeded Haddonfield thumped No. 9 seed Barnegat, 7-1.

Regina Kelly scored twice in six minutes midway through the second half, and Alicia Barger stopped a dozen shots for her ninth shutout of the season, highlighting fourth-seeded West Deptford's 4-0 win over No. 5 seed Pemberton.

South Jersey Group 4. Shannon Nugent scored twice in the first half, putting 11th-seeded Shawnee on track for a 2-0 upset at No. 3 seed Toms River South.

Madison Tiernan's two goals ignited a strong start that propelled fourth-seeded Eastern past No. 5 seed Millville, 4-1.

Jenna Seddon scored two goals and set up Rebecca Sartorio's score, as top-seeded Absegami ousted No. 8 seed Toms River East, 3-0.

Second-seeded Lenape outshot No. 7 seed Toms River North, 21-3, and used two goals by Katie Rigby to come away with a 4-1 win.

Central Jersey Group 1. Amber Steen turned aside a dozen shots and Kayla Banxcroft broke through for a goal in overtime, lifting third-seeded New Egypt over No. 6 seed Point Pleasant Beach, 1-0.

Ashley Swiderski converted a penalty kick in the first half, and Florence goalie Alexis Carroll made the lead stand up as the fourth-seeded Flashes slipped past No. 5 seed South Amboy, 1-0.

Central Jersey Group 2. Sixth-seeded Bordentown was bounced from the tournament, 2-0, by No. 3 seed Shore Regional.

Central Jersey Group 3. Northern Burlington's Alissa Spencer tied the score with 2:30 to go in regulation, but the ninth-seeded Greyhounds' upset bid came up short as No. 1 seed Wall won, 4-3 in penalty kicks.

South Jersey Non-Public A. Top-seeded Gloucester Catholic failed to produce a goal in falling, 1-0 in overtime, to No. 9 seed Monsignor Donovan.

South Jersey Non-Public B. Alea Couch and Brianna Howarth scored in regulation for third-seeded Moorestown Friends, but No. 11 seed Mater Dei pulled off a 3-2 upset on a goal with 1:11 left in overtime.

Field Hockey

Shannon Lawson, Liz Cruz and Ali Stever sparked Ocean City's attack, and Roisin Dougherty was solid in goal with five saves, as the top-seeded Red Raiders dispatched No. 9 seed Pinelands, 5-0, in a South Jersey Group 3 quarterfinal.

Lawson and Cruz each contributed two goals and one assist while Stever scored one goal and set up another for Ocean City (18-0), which was awarded 17 penalty corners and rang up 48 shots on goal.

Central Jersey Group 3. Northern Burlington netminder Britany Hafner came through with 15 saves, but the sixth-seeded Greyhounds couldn't put the ball in the cage and wound up falling, 1-0, in double overtime at No. 3 seed Allentown.

Friends Schools. Moorestown Friends could not prevent host Shipley from capturing its fourth consecutive league championship, 4-0.

Boys' Soccer

Harun Bozkurt's two penalty kicks within a 10-minute span in the second half enabled top-seeded Burlington City to outlast No. 8 seed New Egypt, 3-2, in a Central Jersey Group 1 quarterfinal.

The Warriors opened the scoring on Travis Ward's first-half goal, and cut the deficit to one when Adam Coyle scored with 6 minutes to go in regulation.
