S. Jersey Boys: C.H. East stuns Washington Twp.

Rob Taylor lined a two-out, bases-loaded single in the top of the seventh inning Monday to give Cherry Hill East the biggest upset on the opening day of the NJSIAA South Jersey baseball tournament.

The Cougars, seeded last in the 16-team Group 4 field, ousted host Washington Township, 2-0, and advanced to the sectional quarterfinals.

The top-seeded Minutemen (16-5), ranked No. 3 in South Jersey by The Inquirer, had beaten East (6-14) by 11-10 and 6-4 during a pair of regular-season matchups.

Alex Dimpter pitched a no-hitter with four strikeouts to hand Washington Township its second straight shutout loss. Taylor connected on a 2-2 pitch for the game's runs.

Also in Group 4, Lenape edged visiting Toms River North, 1-0. Bryan Clayton hit a second-inning home run and Jeff McGarry hurled a five-hit shutout.

South Jersey Group 1. Back-to-back homers off the bats of Tim Mathias and Dom Wyshinski in the first inning launched Pennsville's 10-3 win over visiting Woodbury.

Gloucester whipped visiting LEAP Academy, 14-0. Austin Darrow, Stephen Bobo, Kyle Gaff, and Kyle Greene combined for a no-hitter, and Brandon Blackiston belted a grand slam.

Mike Byrnes singled, doubled, and homered, and Ryan Rust slapped a key two-out, two-run single in the fifth inning of Haddon Township's 6-2 win over visiting Clayton.

South Jersey Group 2. Haddonfield gave up five runs and the lead in the top of the seventh, but rebounded to get a run in the bottom of the inning and beat visiting Sterling, 6-5. Alex Reinecker knocked in five runs with a pair of homers.

Woodstown, in the postseason for the 37th time in the last 38 years, made a quick exit with a 3-1 loss to visiting Point Pleasant Boro. Wolverines pitcher Nick DiPietropolo struck out six and allowed one earned run.

West Deptford's 10-1 win at Middle Township featured 11 strikeouts in six innings by winning pitcher Tony Urban.

Cinnaminson's Frank Shallow lost a no-hit bid in the fifth inning and settled for an 11-1, two-hit win over visiting Pennsauken Tech.

South Jersey Group 3. GCIT posted its first-ever playoff win, 7-4, at Cherry Hill West. Winning pitcher Chris Jiunta snapped a 4-4 deadlock in the seventh inning with a two-run single.

Kingsway scored all of its runs in the sixth inning to beat visiting Hammonton, 4-2. Jeremy Dale's two-run singled tied the game, and Connor Flynn followed with a decisive two-run single.

Delsea's Nick Freijomil drove in three runs, and winning pitcher Garrett Craig helped himself with two hits and an RBI amid a 6-1 victory over visiting Lacey Township.

Kevin Comer dominated Seneca's 4-0 win over visiting Ocean City by throwing a one-hit complete game with 10 strikeouts. Gabe Santone hit a three-run homer.

Run-scoring hits by Jesse Fante and winning pitcher Nick Savino started Moorestown toward a 4-0 win over visiting Cumberland.

Central Jersey Group 1. Visiting Riverside, seeded 12th, surprised No. 5 seed Point Pleasant Beach, 5-3, as Jacob Reeder and Mark Morano had two-run hits.

Pete Perez's two-run double was the game-winning hit for Burlington City in a 4-2 triumph over visiting Henry Hudson.

Central Jersey Group 2. Scott Gorish singled with two outs in the bottom of the eighth to bring home the deciding run in Bordentown's 5-4 thriller over visiting Summit.

Central Jersey Group 4. Pinch-runner Mike DelViscio raced home on Devon Hedgepeth's bases-loaded single in the eighth inning to end host Rancocas Valley's 6-5 win over North Brunswick.

Cape-Atlantic. Bryan Toland had two doubles, including his 100th career hit, as Sacred Heart got past visiting Wildwood Catholic, 6-0.

Pennsville claimed the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 1 championship with a 4-1 success against Glassboro in the final at Clearview. The Eagles got singles wins from Cory Finlaw and Matt Drummond and doubles victories by Tyler Ascenzi and Sam Stafford, and Brandon Chambers and Josh Wyshinski.

Haddonfield's Mike Lacatena and Anthony Vandervort each shot 5-over par 77 at Westwood Golf Club, and Lacatena prevailed in a playoff to win the Colonial Conference championships.
