Thurs. S.J. girls’ roundup: Audubon wins wild softball game

Alex Gravinese's bases-loaded double fueled a six-run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning, enabling host Audubon to outslug Overbrook, 17-16, on Thursday in a wild Colonial Conference softball game.

Hunter Urban batted 5 for 5 and Gravinese was 4 for 6 at the plate for the Green Wave, which picked up eight of its 22 hits in the final inning.

Overbrook, which led 12-5 in the top of the fifth, finished with 18 hits.

In other Colonial action:

Senior shortstop Kylie McGoldrick opened the game with a home run and went on to add a pair of doubles, highlighting Sterling's 11-4 victory at Haddon Township.

Shayla Sweeney just missed pitching a perfect game, allowing one base runner on a walk, but settled for a no-hitter as host Haddon Heights cruised to a 15-0 five-inning win over Paulsboro. Sweeney also contributed two hits and three runs scored, while Mattie McCleary knocked in three runs with three doubles and Kristen Rech totaled two hits and four RBIs.

Kali Cipolla, Maura Trotman and Dana Kemerling each drove in a run in the top of the fifth, and Haddonfield held on to edge host Gateway, 3-2.

Tri-County. Kelsey Dominik struck out 13 and did not walk a batter in pitching a two-hit shutout, and Dominique Ficara's RBI triple ignited a three-run first inning that stood up for Kingsway in a 3-0 home win over GCIT.

Marissa Kohrherr had three hits and two RBIs in Salem's 10-2 triumph at Schalick.

Angela Harris batted 3 for 3, including a two-run double in the third that helped send host Gloucester past Clayton, 14-0.

Olympic. Dez Martinez doubled, tripled and knocked in four runs, Brittany Fitzmaurice added two RBIs on a pair of doubles, and Brielle Reign tossed a three-hit shutout as Triton trounced host Pennsauken, 13-0.

Burlington County. Caitlin Proetti raced home from second on Dezi Filmyer's single in the bottom of the sixth, allowing host Florence to open its season with a 3-2 triumph over Delran. Proetti, a freshman catcher, scored twice in support of her batterymate - winning pitcher Sydney Woreck.

Jess Dotson (three RBIs) delivered the game-winning double in the bottom of the seventh inning, lifting host Rancocas Valley over Moorestown, 8-7.

Cape-Atlantic. Junior Kelly Lupton was dominant in pitching her first no-hitter, striking out 13 while walking two, and Absegami scratched out single runs in the fifth and sixth to edge visiting Millville, 2-0. Lauren Block and Marissa McCann each drove in a run for the Braves.

Natalie Carlucci's three-run home run in the sixth inning capped her 3-for-3, 6-RBI performance in Holy Spirit's 11-5 home win over Middle Township. Jessica Giaccone had three hits and scored three times for the Spartans, whose seven-run fifth inning was keyed by Tiffany Phillips' three-run blast.

Stephanie Hand fanned 11 in limiting St. Joseph to four hits, and drove in two runs with a pair of hits - including a home run - as Oakcrest rolled to a 10-1 home win. Kelsey Cheek batted 4 for 4 with two RBIs to highlight the Falcons' 14-hit attack.

Nonleague. Lisa Kosteleski hit a pair of three-run home runs and senior righthander Sawyer Thomas struck out nine in tossing an abbreviated perfect game, as host Cherry Hill West needed just five innings to finish off Camden Academy Charter, 14-0.

Candice Dunn teamed up with winning pitcher Tori Kendall for five hits and six runs in Timber Creek's 13-3 romp past visiting Pennsauken Tech.

Lacrosse

Erin Waller led the way with five goals and two assists as host Washington Township seized control from the outset, scoring 11 times in the first half to run away from Eastern, 16-5, in the Olympic Conference.

Nicole Tiernan posted a hat trick, while Katie Gill and Megan Tiernan each added two goals and three assists for the Minutemaids.

Olivia Streinlein and Courtney Norton scored four goals apiece, Carly Walters dealt three assists and Caroline Huelster made 15 saves for host Lenape, which opened its season by nipping Cherokee, 13-12.

The Chiefs' Lauren Kaspovich led all scorers with six goals.

Burlington County. Trish Brown (seven goals) and Alex Hesciak (six) took turns picking apart Delran's defense, and host Rancocas Valley broke open a tight game in the second half to pull away to a 16-7 win.
