Paul VI edges Trenton Catholic

Rob Poole made three of four foul shots in the final minute to keep Paul VI in front as the Eagles edged Trenton Catholic, 55-52, in the Cherry Hill East boys' basketball tournament on Sunday.

Poole finished with 21 points and nine rebounds, and Kris O'Connor had four steals for Paul VI (21-2).

The Iron Mikes (16-5) got 16 points from Ronnie Paden.

Also at East, Paulsboro used a press and a 1-3-1 zone defense to reel off an 18-2 third quarter and defeat Atlantic City, 61-49. Sophomore Xavier Lundy scored 25 points in his third straight game with at least 25.

Wyatt Polk scored 13 of his 25 points in the third quarter as Haddonfield dealt Shawnee a 78-66 setback.

Kenny Johnson netted 15 points, but it was not enough to prevent Rancocas Valley's 54-53 loss to Newark Science.

All-tournament pick Jasmine Martin, a guard, poured in 30 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and picked off three steals while guiding Timber Creek to a 47-42 win over Willingboro in the third-place game of the South Jersey Invitational at Sterling.

Prime Events Shootout. Sacred Heart reached 20 wins in a season for the 11th time in the last 12 years with a 52-49 triumph over Mainland in the showcase event at Holy Spirit. Brittany Harden paced the Lions with 14 points.

Aided by a 15-0 third-quarter run, Absegami tripped Cedar Creek, 49-45. The Braves' Jamea Coleman registered 19 points, six rebounds and six steals.

Ocean City grabbed a 51-43 success against St. Peter's (N.Y.) behind Julia Duggan's 15 points and eight rebounds, and a 31-21 rebounding edge.
