TED SILARY ON CITY LEAGUES

TED SILARY ON CITY LEAGUES

Roman vs. La Salle, Catholic AAAA, Friday, 7 o'clock, at Plymouth-Whitemarsh

Roman got slapped around, at least a little, by O'Hara and needs to rebound to reinforce the idea that La Salle indeed will have competition in this division.

Northeast at Frankford, Public AAAA Gold, Saturday, 11 a.m.

For whatever reason, Northeast tends to do well in road games vs. Frankford. It will have to play great defense because offense has mostly been a rumor. Frankford discovered the pass in last week's win over Bartram. Sorry, didn't mean to make you faint.

Del-Val at Bok, Public AA, Saturday, 2 o'clock

A Bok win would make this division's top three teams (also Imhotep) 1-1 against each other. D-V wideout Brad Wilson could be the difference-maker.

JOSEPH SANTOLIQUITO ON DELCO

Strath Haven at Conestoga, Friday, 7 o'clock

Strath Haven is on a three-game winning streak and will be looking to keep the explosive Conestoga offense off the field with the combined running threats of Thurman Fortune and Brent Collins, who combined to rush for more than 300 yards in the Panthers' 24-7 victory over Haverford High last week. Strath Haven is 3-0 in the Central League. Conestoga might meed this game to stay in contention for the Central League championship.

Cardinal O'Hara at Chester, Saturday, 10:30 a.m.

The 3-1 Clippers are off to their best start in over a decade, according to first-year coach Charles Crews, and they also are on a three-game winning streak. O'Hara (4-0) poses a formidable threat. The Lions were just scored upon for the first time this season in their victory over Roman Catholic and have outscored opponents, 151-24.

MICHAEL RADANO ON SOUTH JERSEY

St. Joseph at Holy Spirit, Friday, 7 o'clock

This is the Cape-Atlantic League game of the year. Holy Spirit, ranked No. 1 in South Jersey by the Daily News, is 3-0 having outscored opponents, 130-13. The talented Spartans have running back Donta Pollack leading the way with 606 yards on 81 carries. No. 3 St. Joe might be a small school on paper but figures to give Spirit its biggest challenge of the regular season.

Williamstown at Moorestown, Friday, 7 o'clock

Moorestown is the surprise story of the early season at 2-1 and has reached No. 8 in the rankings. There is no time to rest for the Group 3 Quakers, who get a visit from Group 4 and 10th-ranked Williamstown, which has lost nary a step after breakout 2009.

West Deptford at Haddonfield, Friday, 7 o'clock

Haddonfield ended the Eagles' 2009 season in the Group 2 playoffs. No. 9 West Deptford claims not to be thinking about last year as motivation, and the reality is these Colonial Conference rivals never need motivation when they meet.
