In a renewal of the best individual rivalry in South Jersey girls' tennis, Haddonfield sophomore Taylor Ng defeated Cherry Hill East junior Jamie Silverberg, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2, Sunday in the championship match of the Camden County tournament.
The match, at Eastern, was a reversal of last year's tournament final and the fifth between the players in the last two seasons. Ng has won three.
"Every time they play it's a close, competitive match," Haddonfield coach Jeff Holman said.
Ng had advanced with a 6-4, 6-3 semifinal victory over Haddonfield senior Martha Theodoris. Silverberg had advanced with a 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 victory over Haddonfield senior Spencer Ng, Taylor's sister.
In a regular-season match last Monday, Silverberg defeated Taylor Ng, 6-1, 7-5. "The last time Taylor played Jamie, she wasn't as aggressive as she would like," Holman said.
Haddonfield's doubles teams advanced to the tournament finals. The No. 1 team, Catherine Senopoulos and Meghan Burns, will play the No. 2 team, Rebecca Senopoulos and Victoria Martinez, this week at Haddonfield, Holman said.
