All-Star Labor Classic showcases local basketball talent

In a game that featured far more offense than defense, Jabril Trawick turned the All-Star Labor Classic at La Salle University into his own dunk contest.

He lifted off for four dunks and 14 points as the Suburban Boys downed the City Boys, 114-111, on Sunday afternoon.

Earlier, the City Girls defeated the Suburban Girls, 84-82.

Trawick, an Abington Friends senior, rose for a one-handed, reverse, 360-degree dunk in the second half. But the all-star, ticketed for Georgetown, said his favorite slam came in the pregame layup line as he connected for the first time on a through-the-legs dunk.

"This was the most fun I've ever had at an all-star game," said Trawick, who added four rebounds and four assists. "I was trying to play the most defense I could."

For the city side, Dobbins senior Jerrell Wright, who has committed to La Salle, dropped in 14 points as he played on his future home court in front of a few current Explorers.

The 6-foot-8 forward sported a tight pair of red shorts that rested well above the kneecap. He said he received the throwback shorts Sunday morning from his coach and was told they were Dobbins' game shorts from 1985.

Engineering and Science guard Brittany Hrynko scored 13 points and grabbed four rebounds for the City Girls. The senior wore an eccentric pair of bright green sneakers.

Germantown Academy forward Alexa Gallagher collected 10 points and five rebounds for the Suburban Girls. Hrynko and Gallagher first met playing AAU ball against each other; both have committed to play for DePaul next season.

When Gallagher made her official visit to the Chicago school, Blue Demons coach Doug Bruno received a phone call from Hrynko informing him that she would be attending as well.

"She's a really nice girl, and we try to talk a lot through texts," Gallagher said.
