No-hitter lifts Burlington City

Burlington City's Nick Gares threw a no-hitter in six innings of work in the Blue Devils' 15-0 win over Medford Tech in a Burlington County League matchup on Friday.

Burlington City's Nick Gares threw a no-hitter in six innings of work in the Blue Devils' 15-0 win over Medford Tech in a Burlington County League matchup on Friday.

Gares, a lefthanded senior commited to Cabrini College next season, struck out nine while walking one in his first career no-hitter.

He also chipped in at the plate, going 3 for 4 with two doubles.

In other Burlington County League baseball action, Nate Peacock struck out 15 in seven innings in New Egypt's 6-1 road win against Maple Shade

BCSL Tournament. Joe McGugan scored the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly from pinch-hitter Tim Profy as Cinnaminson edged host Pemberton, 4-3. McGugan went 2 for 3 on the day, scoring two runs. Nick Mahoney pitched in, going 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI.

Camden County Tournament. A late surge by visiting Haddonfield led to a 5-4 win over Timber Creek. The Bulldawgs scored the final run in the top of the seventh.

Olympic Conference. Mike Faunt went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI in Cherokee's 5-1 home win against Seneca.

Nonleague. Kyle Muller went the distance in Steinert's 5-0 win against host Gloucester Catholic.

Muller allowed two hits with five strikeouts in the shutout.

Glassboro beat Woodbury, 6-2, with a five-inning pitching effort by Eric Gilbert, who struck out two.

Nick Pera went 3 for 3 with two runs scored and an RBI in Egg Harbor Township's 8-3 win over Oakcrest.

Lacrosse

A six-goal third quarter pushed host Holy Cross over Rancocas Valley, 10-8, in the Burlington County League clash. Matt Gebhardt led with a four-goal showing.

Cape-Atlantic League. Mainland topped host Egg Harbor Township, 19-7, behind a five-goal game from Ethan Irizarry. Keegan Ford and Atonio Yeoman both chipped in with four goals each.
