BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Neumann-Goretti boys' and girls' basketball teams put on quite a show Tuesday night at Freedom High.

The boys regained the swagger they had been missing in their last three games with a 113-71 thumping of Scranton Prep in a PIAA Class AAA second-round contest.

The girls opened the doubleheader by whipping previously undefeated Minersville, 71-33, in a Class AA second-round matchup.

Against Scranton Prep, the District 2 titlist, the Saints' starters combined for 100 points. Carl Arrigale's squad reached 90 points (31, 25, and 34) in the first three quarters.

"We got back to playing our game, Arrigale said. "We played more like ourselves. I could tell the kids had a different look in their eyes when I got to school today."

Zane Martin (27 points, eight rebounds, five assists) and Quade Green (26 points, seven assists, five steals) were quite the one-two punch against the overmatched Cavaliers.

"We had to get back to business," Green said. "Everybody was sharing the ball and hitting their shots. Our offense was clicking on all cylinders."

Rasheed Browne delivered 18 points and four assists; Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree netted 13 of his 15 points in the second half; and Vaughn Covington (six assists) drilled four first-half three-pointers on the way to 14 points.

N-G (24-4) will meet District 1 runner-up Lower Moreland in a quarterfinal Friday night at a neutral site and time to be determined.

Martin's right-wing trey gave the Saints a 71-52 advantage midway through the third quarter. Cosby-Roundtree's putback dunk made it 100-64 with 41/2 minutes to play.

With Chyna Nixon delivering 22 points and five steals, N-G (26-1) easily handed Minersville its first loss. The District 11 champs came in with a 28-0 mark.

Nixon, who also grabbed seven boards and blocked two shots, posted 13 points in the first stanza as the Saints sprinted to a 22-10 lead.

Jabria Ingram contributed 14 points and six assists; Morgan Lenahan buried a pair of second-quarter treys en route to 11 points; and Jada Russell pitched in 10 points off the bench.

Andrea Peterson's team will face District 2 champ Holy Redeemer in a quarterfinal Friday night.
