Pa. Boys: Pa. boys: Strong debut for Archbishop Carroll's Melito

Archbishop Carroll sophomore Rich Melito had a hit, an RBI and a stolen base in his first varsity game as the Patriots left Bonner-Prendergast on Wednesday with a 5-2 Catholic League baseball victory.

Elsewhere in the Catholic League:

Matt McKeown had three hits, four RBIs and two triples in Neumann-Goretti's 18-5 win at Conwell Egan. Brian Verratti finished with three hits and three runs.

North Carolina recruit Joe Lancellotti struck out five in 51/3 innings and also drove in a run to lead host Archbishop Wood to a 12-2 victory over Lansdale Catholic.

Gregg Sywulak hit a three-run double during a 10-run bottom of the second, and host La Salle rolled a 14-1 victory over St. Joseph's Prep.

Chris Fusaro struck out eight in 51/3 innings and also had a double and a single in Cardinal O'Hara's 8-6 home win over Archbishop Ryan.

Bicentennial. Dom Cataline went 2 for 2 with three runs and three RBIs to lead Lower Moreland to 16-1 win over visiting Morrisville. Dicky Rhoads finished 2 for 3 with two runs and an RBI.

Ches-Mont. Senior lefthander Brent Rice struck out six in a four-hitter as Avon Grove dispatched visiting Kennett, 3-0.

Noah Maida drove in two with a bases-loaded single to left field in the top of the fourth to give Oxford the lead for the good in its 3-2 win over Octorara.

David Conklin struck out 10 to help West Chester East turn away visiting Great Valley, 8-4. Culver Hughes went 3 for 4 with two RBIs.

Friends Schools. Charlie Coyle had four hits in four at-bats but Academy of New Church fell, 14-7, to visiting Moorestown Friends. Coyle scored twice and drove in two runs. Adam Quaranta went 2 for 2 with two runs and two RBIs.

Pioneer. Joe Zgleszewski had three hits and four RBIs in Owen J. Roberts' 10-4 victory at Perkiomen Valley.

Public A. Rudy Diaz went 3 for 4 with three runs, two RBIs and two doubles to help Frankford top host Esperanza, 12-4.

Nonleague. Kevin McGowan had two hits, including a home run, to help host Haverford School win, 5-3, over Garnet Valley.

Connor Zielinski had three hits, three RBIs and three runs in Radnor's 19-1 win over Urbana (Ohio) in Cocoa Beach, Fla.

Tyler Freed hit two doubles to push Pennridge past visiting Southern Lehigh, 14-6.

Gabe McCarthy went 2 for 3 with three RBIs and Will Layton went 3 for 4 with two RBIs as visiting Friends Select beat Barrack Hebrew, 7-5.

Boys' Lacrosse

Brian Kent had eight assists to set up Archbishop Wood's 18-4 Catholic League victory at Roman Catholic.

Kent also scored two goals. Cole Miller added three goals and one assist.

Pioneer. Josh Gliva tallied five goals to send Spring-Ford to a 17-1 home win over Phoenixville.

Shawn Coulter had three goals and one assist in Perkiomen Valley's 3-1 overtime victory over Methacton.

Nonleague. Bobby McClure had six assists to help Haverford High win, 13-3, at Council Rock North.

Tom Higgins paired five goals with one assist and Christian Xitas added two goals and four assists and visiting Marple Newtown blanked Upper Merion, 12-0.

Dave Kilgore scored five times in Interboro's 10-2 victory at Archbishop Carroll.

Mike Brown had three goals and two assists and Brendan Clark had three goals and one assist to help Springside Chestnut Hill steamroll Peddie School, 15-0. Zach Messerle added two goals and three assists.

Adam Goldner had four goals and one assist but Malvern Prep fell to visiting Loyola Blakefield (Md.), 13-10. Loyola Blakefield is ranked No. 23 in the country in the latest Nike/Lacrosse Magazine poll. Charles Kelly won 19 of 26 faceoffs for the Friars.
