College Basketball: Ohio State women stun No. 16 Rutgers

Freshman Kelsey Mitchell had 33 points and six assists, and Ameryst Alston had 21 points and nine rebounds to lead Ohio State to an 85-68 win over No. 16 Rutgers on Thursday in Columbus, Ohio.

The Buckeyes (9-5, 1-1 Big Ten) raced to a 40-27 lead at halftime and never let the Scarlet Knights (10-3, 1-1) challenge.

Betnijah Laney had 23 points and 12 rebounds for Rutgers, her 10th double-double of the season. Tyler Scaife had 17 points. The Scarlet Knights were without guard Briyona Canty, who suffered a knee injury in Sunday's conference opener and is day-to-day.

Michigan 89, Penn State 53 - Freshman Lindsey Spann scored 15 points, but the Nittany Lions (3-10, 0-2 Big Ten) could not catch the hot-shooting Wolverines (9-4, 1-1) in Ann Arbor, Mich. Katelynn Flaherty led Michigan with 21 points, and Cyesha Goree added 20.

Men

Evansville 52, Northern Iowa 49 -

The host Purple Aces (11-2), led by D.J. Balentine's 17 points, overcame a 10-point halftime deficit and rallied past the 23d-ranked Panthers (11-2). Seth Tuttle scored a game-high 18 points for UNI.

Northern Iowa held a 30-20 lead at intermission.
