S. Jersey Boys: Tues. S.J. boys: Another win for Woodstown, Ware

After celebrating its new grass field Tuesday, Woodstown moved a step closer to commemorating the achievements of baseball coach Lee Ware.

Woodstown and Ware opened their season with a 4-2 win in a Tri-County Diamond matchup against Deptford. Ware shares South Jersey's all-time record with 603 wins, tied with Russ Spicer, who guided Haddonfield, Moorestown, Paulsboro, and Cinnaminson.

"It means I've been around a long time and I've surrounded myself with some good people," said Ware, who has coached Woodstown since 1974. "I'm very blessed. I've had players who always sacrificed for the team."

Austin Counsellor gave up two runs on three hits over seven innings to earn the win Tuesday. He struck out five and walked none.

Ware will have a chance to break the record when Woodstown hosts Glassboro on Wednesday.

Tri-County Classic. Matt Bolle had a double and knocked in two runs in Wildwood's 10-4 win against visiting Clayton. Bolle also struck out five in two innings to earn the save.

Colonial. Kevin Terifay held Paulsboro scoreless for 61/3 innings, helping Audubon earn a 4-0 road win.

Matt Charlton and Troy Kondola each homered in Haddon Township's 12-4 win at Woodbury.

Cape-Atlantic American. Joe Gatto and Anthony Meduri combined to throw a no-hitter in St. Augustine's 3-1 home win against Atlantic City. The two pitchers struck out 12, and Meduri earned the win in relief.

Brandon Alfonso doubled and knocked in four runs in Hammonton's 6-3 win against visiting Oakcrest.

Nonleague. Justin Hagenman gave up one hit over five shutout innings in Bishop Eustace's 10-0 win over visiting Episcopal Academy.

GCIT's Matt Stanix doubled and picked up the save in a 7-6 win at Delsea.

Tyler Pagaduan, Tom Flacco, and Collin Fabio each had two hits in Eastern's 5-1 home win against Cherry Hill West. Flacco knocked in two runs, and Pagaduan scored twice.

John Murphy fanned eight in six scoreless innings for Gloucester Catholic, which held on for a 7-5 win against visiting Cumberland. Murphy gave up only one hit and walked two.

Chris Li drove in two runs with a double in the fourth inning to open the scoring, and Moorestown went on to win at Pemberton, 6-2.

Colin Stringham blasted two home runs and knocked in six runs in Holy Cross' 12-2 win at Pennsauken.

Austin Chaszar had three doubles in Rancocas Valley's 5-4 win over visiting Bordentown.

Sean Heslin had an RBI double in the first inning, and it was all Shawnee needed. Behind pitcher Scott Leventon, the Renegades held on for a 1-0 win at Seneca.

Chris Haruch gave up two hits over five shutout innings to earn the victory for host Washington Township, which beat Timber Creek, 5-1.
