Individual tourney opens this weekend

The state individual wrestling tournament will begin this weekend with district competition.

South Jersey wrestlers will compete in eight district tournaments. The top three finishers in each weight class at each district will advance to the region tournaments.

Wrestlers from Districts 25 through 28 will advance to the Region 7 tournament Feb. 26 and 28 and March 1 at Robbinsville.

Wrestlers from Districts 29 through 32 will advance to the Region 8 tournament Feb. 26 and 28 and March 1 at Egg Harbor Township.

Competition in Districts 25, 27, and 31 will be Saturday only. The other districts will have action Friday and Saturday.

The top three finishers in each weight class at each region will advance to the state championships, set for March 7-9 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.

Here's a breakdown of the teams in each district:

District 25: Northern Burlington (host), Allentown, Hamilton East, Hamilton North, Hamilton West, Hightstown, New Egypt, Pemberton, Rancocas Valley, Robbinsville, Trenton Central.

District 26: Holy Cross (host), Bordentown, Burlington City, Burlington Township, Cinnaminson, Delran, Eastern, Moorestown, Riverside, Westampton Tech, Willingboro.

District 27: Cherokee (host), Bishop Eustace, Camden Catholic, Cherry Hill East, Cherry Hill West, Lenape, Maple Shade, Palmyra, Seneca, Shawnee.

District 28: Collingswood (host), Audubon, Camden, Haddonfield, Haddon Heights, Haddon Township, Paul VI, Pennsauken, Sterling.

District 29: At Gloucester County College. Clayton/Glassboro, Clearview, Deptford, Gateway/Woodbury, Gloucester, Gloucester Catholic, Paulsboro, Pitman, West Deptford.

District 30: Overbrook (host), Hammonton, Highland, Lindenwold, St. Joseph, Timber Creek, Triton, Washington Township, Williamstown, Winslow Township.

District 31: Delsea (host), Cumberland, Kingsway, Millville, Penns Grove, Pennsville, Schalick, Vineland, Woodstown.

District 32: Absegami (host), Atlantic City, Buena, Cedar Creek, Egg Harbor Township, Holy Spirit, Lower Cape May, Mainland, Middle Township, Oakcrest, Ocean City, St. Augustine Prep.
