Games to watch this season

La Salle at North Penn, 7:30 p.m. This is again Week 1's marquee matchup. The Explorers are still smarting from losing to North Penn in last season's PIAA Class AAAA state semifinals. La Salle leads the series, 3-1.

Malvern Prep vs. Roman Catholic, in Wildwood, N.J., noon. Don't expect the Friars, who pinned a 17-0 defeat on Roman Catholic in Week 2 last year, to hold Mike Keir and company scoreless this time.

North Penn vs. Archbishop Wood, at William Tennent, 7 p.m. You can't say North Penn is hiding from anyone. First, La Salle. Now, the defending Class AAA state champs. And, the next week, St. Joseph's Prep. Gulp!

Downingtown East at Coatesville, 7 p.m. This showdown could easily turn into a track meet. The Cougars have a stellar pass-catch duo in Kyle Lauletta and Jay Harris. Coatesville has a number of swift playmakers, including wideout Chris Jones.

George Washington at Frankford, 3 p.m. The Eagles' Justin Moody, a 6-foot-3, 270-pound lineman and Division I-A recruit, will spend much of the afternoon trying to chase down Frankford quarterback Tim DiGiorgio.

Ridley at Garnet Valley, 7 p.m. In Week 5 last season, Garnet Valley nipped the Green Raiders, 21-19, and never looked back en route to the Central League title. To gain payback, a Shane Dougherty-led defense must derail a run-happy attack.

North Penn at Pennridge, 7 p.m. Can the Rams, who return 1,300-yard rusher Mike Class and rugged fullback Kenny Crawford, end North Penn's dominance of the Suburban One League Continental Conference?

Roman Catholic vs. La Salle, at Plymouth Whitemarsh, 7 p.m. The Cahillites, who have a dynamic receiver in Will Fuller, have been eyeing this game since falling to La Salle in last year's Catholic League final.

Pennsbury at Neshaminy, 7 p.m. The Bucks County Brawl, held in the Suburban One League National Conference for the last 27 years, rarely disappoints. Neshaminy leads the series, 37-36-7, and has claimed four of the last five meetings.

Malvern Prep at Haverford School, 1 p.m. It's a good bet that this Week 10 clash will decide the Inter-Ac League championship. The Friars, boosted by a 17-14 triumph over the Fords, took top honors last season.
