Tues. Pa. boys’ roundup: Sharp earns Catholic golf crown

Sharp and teammate Steve Owens, the defending champion, carded 4-over-par 74s to lead the field, forcing the playoff, which was decided on Edgmont's par-4 11th hole.

La Salle, led by Morgan Dougherty and P. J. Acierno with 76s, edged St. Joseph's Prep by 4 strokes for the team title. The top 20 individuals and top four teams qualified for the District 12 tournament, set for Tuesday at Penn Oaks.

Public League. Central won its sixth straight team title, paced by individual winner Jacob Spivack's 6-over 37 for nine holes at Walnut Lane.

Central posted a score of 177, followed by Lincoln at 216. Spivack won by 2 strokes over Lincoln's Roland Stucke.

Soccer

Melvin Snoh connected on a free kick with 15 minutes left in a tied game, giving Malvern Prep a 2-1 Inter-Ac League victory at Chestnut Hill. Daniel Hull's early goal put CHA ahead until Jason McLarney tied it on a 25-yard shot into the upper left corner with 10 seconds left in the first half.

Penn Charter's Sean O'Brien scored twice, and Ray Vandergrift added a goal and an assist in support of Ben Krieger's three-save goaltending to beat host Germantown Academy, 3-0.

Two second-half goals by Brett Campbell gave Haverford School a 2-0 win over visiting Episcopal Academy. Goalie Jay Farrell made five saves.

Catholic. Matt Wiejczyk's goal in the 12th minute ignited Father Judge's 3-0 win at Bishop McDevitt. Judge goalie Dylan Trush had four saves.

Mark Casasanto scored from Tom Kostick's assist before halftime, and goalie Dylan Rutledge picked up his sixth shutout as Roman Catholic edged Conwell-Egan, 1-0, at Parkwood.

Lansdale Catholic's 4-1 win over visiting Cardinal O'Hara included a goal apiece by Matt Hull, Alex Manzo, Brendan Pinder and Chris Quasti.

Suburban One. Miguel Diaz assisted on the first of Sean Jenkins' two goals and scored the last goal in Central Bucks East's 3-0 shutout of visiting Hatboro-Horsham. Goalie Jacob Nesteruk made four saves in his sixth shutout.

Goals seven minutes apart in the second half by Luke Hartzell and Ryan Molyneaux made Souderton a 2-1 winner at Central Bucks South.

Bicentennial. Unbeaten Holy Ghost Prep (10-0) handled host Delco Christian, 4-1, as Tim French scored twice and Tim Lazorko chipped in with two assists.

Christian Martins successfully hit a penalty kick with 20 minutes to go for the winning goal in Lower Moreland's 2-1 success at Springfield (Montco).

Single goals by Andrew Shannon (two assists), Rich Gallo, Mike Giampietro and Ryan Shannon carried Devon Prep past host Phil-Mont Christian, 4-2.

Pioneer Athletic. Pottsgrove goalie Niahz Wince needed two saves to blank visiting Perkiomen Valley, 2-0. Rushawn Larmond and Brian Price scored the goals.

Pope John Paul II's Victor Rodriguez converted a penalty kick and assisted Tim Trainor's goal in a 3-1 win over visiting Phoenixville.

Public. Alexander Alvaro earned a shutout in goal, and Farid Amari and Pedro Pires scored goals as Bodine blanked host Olney, 2-0.

Herman Cox knocked in a pair of goals for Boys' Latin during a 4-1 win over visiting Engineering & Science.

Friends Schools. George School stayed unbeaten (7-0-1) with a 4-0 win over visiting Academy of the New Church. Justin Mendez scored three goals.

Peter Bockaire of Friends' Central chalked up two goals in a 3-1 success at Moorestown Friends.
