Thurs. S.J. girls’ roundup: Haddonfield rolls to shutout win

Katie Johnston (2 goals, 1 assist), Kylie Kirk (1 goal, 2 assists) and Laurel Falana (1 goal, 1 assist) took turns peppering Green Wave goalie Meg Schafear (12 saves).

In other Colonial Conference action:

Shannon Neary dished out three assists and Alicia Barger stopped eight shots as eighth-ranked West Deptford battled past visiting Gateway, 3-0.

Goalie Janelle Orsino made 23 saves to keep the Gators close.

Kylee Schairer's two-goal effort was just enough for host Collingswood to slip past Paulsboro, 2-1.

Aubrey Andrews, Ally Glickman and Regan Tustin scored to back the shutout goaltending of Sam Brannigan, paving the way for Haddon Heights' 3-0 triumph at Haddon Township.

Woodbury goalie Madison Stebich turned aside 23 shots and set up Lindsey Hatton's goal, but host Sterling used goals by Erica Hoffman and Ashley Kerrigan to pull out a 2-1 victory.

Jade Pinto scored twice for Overbrook, which ran out to a five-goal first-half lead in cruising, 6-0, at Lindenwold.

Tri-County. GCIT used second-half goals by Sydney Coleman and Lauren Fredericks to rally for a 2-1 win at Pitman.

Cape-Atlantic. Hammonton's Jill DiBiasi scored in the second half to pull the Blue Devils into a 1-1 draw at Millville. Janeese Barber was the lone Thunderbolt to put the ball past Hammonton keeper Bridgette Alessandrini (10 saves).

Nonleague. Mary Brodowski, Elise Paulsen, and Elena Zangerle struck for first-half goals to put host Doane Academy on track for a 3-0 triumph over Kohelet Yeshiva.

Field Hockey

Claudia McCarthy's bid to become the first South Jersey coach to reach 500 wins was delayed at least a day, when Millville's match at Atlantic City on Thursday was postponed because of heavy rain and lightning.

McCarthy, in her 41st season, will carry a record of 499-170-111 into Friday's home match against Middle Township.

"We traveled down to Atlantic City and as soon as our bus pulled into the parking lot, there was a cloud burst and we were had blinding rain and lightning like you wouldn't believe," McCarthy said.

Jen Eisenberg (4 goals), Brie Mealey (2 goals) and Miranda Landy (2 assists) spearheaded Mainland's attack in a 6-0 romp at Absegami.

St. Joseph blitzed host Buena, 6-1, behind a hat trick by Emily DeMarco.
