Thurs. Pa. boys’ and girls’ roundup: Spring-Ford, Perk. Valley tie

Windy conditions were a key factor in Spring-Ford's Pioneer Athletic Conference boys' soccer game at Perkiomen Valley on Thursday.

The game ended in a 1-1 standoff after Spring-Ford got a first-half goal when Dylan Dufour took a corner kick and the wind blew the ball into the net.

Perkiomen Valley answered with Drew Vernon's goal 11 minutes into the second half off an assist by Matt Quirk. Goalies Wes Counts of Spring-Ford and the Vikings' Taylor Zeitz made 10 saves apiece.

Also in the PAC-10, Pottsgrove edged host Pope John Paul II, 3-2, on Brian Price's second goal of the game with 8 minutes left.

Central. Nick Fosco of Springfield (Delaware County) hit a hard shot from 30 yards out that deflected off the crossbar and went into the goal midway through the second half to cause a 2-2 stalemate at Strath Haven. Jerry Oetzel and Mark Shiiba scored for the Panthers, who were frustrated by nine saves from Cougars goalie Dave Sousa.

Harriton's Gabe Boni and Zico Gaeffke connected on first-half goals as the Rams claimed a 2-1 thriller over visiting Penncrest. Rams goalie Wilson Smith made nine saves but lost his shutout bid when Evan Hannah converted a second-half penalty kick.

Two goals in each half fueled Upper Darby's 4-2 win over visiting Ridley. Stewart Mena scored twice for the Royals.

Catholic. La Salle, ranked No. 1 in Southeastern Pennsylvania by The Inquirer, subdued visiting Bishop McDevitt, 6-0, as Khristian Hall and Darius Madison had two goals apiece, and goalies Leonardo Romero and Jordan Santora combined for three saves.

Suburban One. Michael Banerjee's goal 4 minutes into overtime decided Plymouth Whitemarsh's 1-0 win over visiting Cheltenham. Ian McDade assisted Banerjee.

Paul Haggerty scored off Chris Russomano's assist 9 minutes into the second half, and Kyle Parkinson scored 11 minutes later from Ryan new to complete Hatboro-Horsham's 2-0 shutout of visiting Pennridge. Goalie Brian Ehrlich made five saves.

Dan Matthews assisted one of Joe Farrell's two goals and scored one of his own, wrapping up Wissahickon's 3-1 triumph at Upper Moreland.

Bicentennial. Nick Reimold assisted Yoni Alush's second-half goal for the only score Lower Moreland needed to get past visiting Springfield (Montgomery County), 1-0.

Holy Ghost Prep, ranked No. 7, made visiting Delco Christian a 3-0 victim on a three-goal performance from junior Colin O'Neill, who doubled his season goal total.

Nick DiGregorio and Trey Grupp chipped in with assists.

Del-Val. Sweeper Stanley Amah anchored the Academy Park defense, and Nabieu Sesay scored twice as the Knights clipped visiting Interboro, 2-1.

Public. Olney's first win was a 5-3 verdict at University City in which Runeyon Holness and Jonathan Mendoza scored two goals apiece.

Martin Luther King's Andreas Lacroix broke a 2-2 deadlock with a goal midway through the second half and teammate Jacques Sylvanince scored twice as King beat host Southern, 4-2.

Tarek Kerbag's three goals and Ariel Oreshkovic's two moved Franklin Learning Center to an 8-2 romp at Roxborough.

Friends Schools. Westtown started its league schedule with a 2-1 overtime thriller over visiting Moorestown Friends. Phillip Rahling drilled an 18-yard shot for the winning goal 2 minutes into the second extra period, and goalie Trent Schindler made a key sprawling save with 30 seconds left in OT.

Tri-County. West-Mont Christian captured a 6-1 victory over visiting Woodlynde that featured Ben Suliman's two goals and two assists.

Francisco DeLeon piled up five assists, and Sam Mamlouk scored four times for Phelps en route to a 9-4 win over visiting Barrack Hebrew.

Collegium Charter sprinted past visiting Wyncote, 5-0, as Cuauhtemoc Herrera scored twice, and Paul Koroma added a goal and an assist.

Nonleague. St. Joseph's Prep (3-2) handed visiting Episcopal Academy (3-1) its first loss, 2-1, on first-half goals from Joe Contessa and Colin McGlynn.

Goals in the first 20 minutes of the game by Josh Pagland and Anthony Santoleri gave Methacton enough for its first win, a 2-0 victory over visiting Upper Merion.

Mastbaum broke open a close game with three second-half touchdowns and pulled away from visiting Olney for a 27-0 Public league Class AAAA Silver Division victory.

Montico Hayward's 4-yard TD run in the third period gave the Panthers a 13-0 lead, and Andre Bryant and Kevin Hart added fourth-quarter insurance scores.

Furness 30, Edison 6 - Terrell Mills eclipsed 100 rushing yards and scored a pair of touchdowns for host Furness (1-1) in the Class AAAA Silver game.

Sharif Smith also posted two TD runs and the Furness defense lost a shutout on the final play of the game.

West Philadelphia 24, M.L. King 2 - The Speedboys (3-0) scored a touchdown in each of the last three quarters, including two Ricardo Streams TD passes to Eric Leslie, and topped host King (0-2) in a Class AAA matchup.

Just 23 seconds remained in the second half when Hatboro-Horsham's Tory Adlam scored to give the Hatters a 2-1 Suburban One League success at Pennridge.

Hatboro's Mary Kate Bateman and the Rams' Natalia Pinkney traded earlier goals.

Central. Unbeaten Strath Haven (4-0) whipped host Springfield (Delaware County), 7-0, as Morgan Glassford and Kristen Miller each had two goals and an assist.

Second-ranked Conestoga boosted its record to 5-0 via a 3-0 win over visiting Lower Merion. Katie McCoubrie netted a pair of unassisted goals, and goalie Anna Walker notched four saves.

Ishale Toliver's seven saves in goal anchored the defense, and Upper Darby earned a 2-1 win at Ridley with goals by Emily Finnegan and Riley Keough.

Catholic. Single goals by Marissa Beaver, Briana Coughlin, Kerry Goldstein, Bryn Wassel and Hannah Whitby combined with a defense that allowed no shots on goal as Lansdale Catholic beat visiting Bishop McDevitt, 5-0.

Freshman forward Cassidy Rajkowski piled up three goals, and Sam Stermel and Elise Smith each had a goal and an assist for St. Hubert amid a 6-0 victory over visiting Archbishop Prendergast.

Pioneer Athletic. Bridget Rauh's goal from Haley Masaros in the second half put Pope John Paul II ahead to stay en route to a 4-2 win at Pottsgrove.

Bicentennial. Jessica Lewis assisted Brittney See's early goal, and Anna Leigh Crisianti got the game ball from her Delco Christian teammates after a 1-0 win at Phil-Mont Christian.

Nonleague. Archbishop Wood senior Kelsey Celline enjoyed her first four-goal game and also assisted on a goal as the Vikings rolled past host Gwynedd-Mercy, 6-1.

Caleigh Foust was the key to Harriton's 4-2 comeback win at Penncrest in the Central League.

Foust had three goals, including the tying goal in the second half, and assisted Michelle Horev's game-winning goal 5 minutes later.

Radnor's third league win was a 2-0 shutout of visiting Garnet Valley by goalie Madi Shutt (six saves), backed by goals from Alyson Makous and Madie Zimmerman.

Inter-Ac. Sophie Eldridge's goal with 16:33 remaining made Penn Charter a 2-1 winner at Baldwin.

Public. Franklin Towne Charter escaped with a 1-0 win at Central when Paige Stearn scored 4:30 into overtime.

Northeast also won by 1-0, edging host Washington on an unassisted goal by freshman Francesca Campanaro.

Suburban One. Samantha Boyd's three-goal effort made the difference for Upper Dublin in a 4-2 win over visiting Norristown. Emily Hitchings added two assists for the unbeaten Cardinals (5-0).

Central Bucks South's 3-2 win at North Penn ended with Kaitlin Poiesz's deciding goal in overtime. North Penn's Bobby Dougherty had a goal and an assist.

Ches-Mont. Unionville's Brielle Hartzell and Downingtown West's Makenna Colby scored goals 3 minutes apart in the middle of the second half as the teams battled to a 1-1 standoff at Downingtown.

West Chester Rustin's offense rallied around Madison Holbrook's two goals for a 2-0 win at Bishop Shanahan. Cassidy Holbrook and Robyn Spatichia assisted the goals.

Great Valley registered three first-half goals and topped host Kennett, 4-1. Katie Defusco scored twice.

Catholic Academies. Ann Burgoyne scored the first goal and had an assist on Emilee Ehret's insurance goal, lifting Mount St. Joseph past host Merion Mercy, 2-0.

Gwynedd-Mercy rallied from a 1-0 second-half deficit on goals by Emily McCauley and Krista Osbourne to clip host Sacred Heart, 2-1.

Bicentennial. Julie Cardamone and Libby Field scored in the first half for Springfield (Montgomery County), and the host Spartans held on to beat New Hope-Solebury, 2-1.
