Karon Robinson, a speedy wide receiver from Camden Catholic, has made an oral commitment to attend the University of Maine on a football scholarship, Irish coach Rick Brown announced yesterday.

Robinson, a 6-foot, 170-pound senior who runs the 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds, selected Maine over Hofstra.

"They're changing things to a spread offense this year and that excited him," Brown said. "And he really liked the coaches and felt comfortable there."

Robinson, who transferred from Woodrow Wilson before his senior season, had 30 catches for 490 yards and four touchdowns last year.

Robinson and teammate Mike Ragone will sign binding letters of intent on Feb. 7, the national signing day. Ragone, who was injured and didn't play last year, previously committed to Notre Dame.
