Meszaros making strides for Flyers
Sam Carchidi, Inquirer Staff Writer
Defenseman Andrej Meszaros practiced with the Flyers on Tuesday for the first time since his March 21 back surgery.
Meszaros wore a no-contact jersey during drills at the Flyers' facility in Voorhees.
"I'm really encouraged," coach Peter Laviolette said.
At the time of the surgery, the Flyers said Meszaros would miss six to eight weeks.
Based on that estimate, the earliest he could return would be midway through the second round of the playoffs.
Defenseman Nick Grossmann skated before practice but did not participate in team drills. He apparently suffered a concussion in Game 4 against Pittsburgh after absorbing hits from Evgeni Malkin and Tyler Kennedy.
Next opponent. THe Flyers said they do not care who they face in the next round. A matchup with the Rangers would be their toughest challenge. The Flyers were 0-6 against New York in the regular season.
"The playoffs are totally different," defenseman Matt Carle said.
In another matter, the Flyers said they have no plans to name a captain for the rest of the playoffs.

Further to the previous post, if you watched Gustafsson pair up against Malkin around the crease you notice that Gus positioned himself well and didn't allow Malkin to use his superior size to get to the net. There's no one the Flyers will face that presents a tougher size/skill package than Malkin. Yea, I'm pretty confident that Gustafsson can handle the job now and in the future although I don't like him as a 22 minutes a game defenseman at this point. 16-18 is more like it. Claudio Vernight

Let's get Grossmann back. Getting Meszaros is icing on the cake.
Is Pronger skating yet? :) Nitroglycerin
agree on kubina and llilja, however i would keep kubina in there based on experience. otown philly fan
Everyone knows who the captain of this team is. Just go with it. You dont need the C if you are the G. Anyone but the Rangers! Go Ottawa! OldSouthPhilly
we need bigger guys on d. Gus played well in those two games, but too many times I saw guys like him and Carle getting outmuscled in front of net. Lilija and Kubina are big and take up space. That is what we need whomever we play against the in the next three rounds. We need Grossman back no doubt. theeman1
The Flyers need to assign a captain - otherwise, who will skate over to hoist the cup in June? CAFlyers
Malkin should have been suspended for the headshot on Grossman and he wasn't even penalized. NHL is not serious about concussions and refs have been terrible. VicM
