Flyers sign prospect Petr Straka

The Flyers announced they have signed forward Petr Straka to a three-year, entry-level deal.

Straka, 20, has led Baie-Comeau to the third round of the Quebec Major Junior League playoffs with 18 points in 8 playoff games. He racked up 82 points in 55 games in his 20-year-old season in the 'Q.' Baie-Comeau will face Blainville-Boisbriand in the semifinals next week, which will prevent Straka from joining the Phantoms this season.

According to his representation, Octagon Hockey, the Flyers beat out a group of 10 suitors to sign Straka to the entry-level contract, which begins next season. Straka's deal is for the NHL entry-level maximum of $925,000. His base salary is $823,500, but he also has a $92,333 signing bonus coming his way each summer.

Straka (6-foot, 195 pounds) is a former second round pick of Columbus (55th overall) in 2010. After posting 64 points in 62 games as a 16-year-old, when Columbus nabbed him, Straka's numbers dropped off with 25 and 37 points in his following seasons. He never signed with the Blue Jackets and became a free agent in 2012.

Though they are from the same hometown (Plzen, Czech Republic) and last name, Petr Straka has no relation to former NHL star Martin Straka.
