Gostisbehere stays on roster but says he won't get cocky

SAN JOSE, Calif. - By putting Sam Gagner on waivers Tuesday to make room for Mark Streit, the Flyers also cleared enough salary-cap space to keep impressive rookie defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere on the roster.

SAN JOSE, Calif. - By putting Sam Gagner on waivers Tuesday to make room for Mark Streit, the Flyers also cleared enough salary-cap space to keep impressive rookie defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere on the roster.

Now that he knows he is staying, Gostisbehere said he won't rest on his laurels. He has 14 points in 19 games.

"It's no need to sit back," he said after practice Tuesday at the SAP Center. ". . . You can't get complacent. It doesn't mean anything. A lot of things could still change. I mean, I'm very confident in my game. I'm going to stick with things and keep it simple. Just do what I do best."

Based on Tuesday's practice, it appears that Gostisbehere will be paired with Luke Schenn for the game Wednesday in San Jose.

The other pairings at practice: Streit and Nick Schultz; Radko Gudas and Evgeny Medvedev; and Michael Del Zotto and Brandon Manning.

Del Zotto update

Del Zotto, who missed a 4-2 loss Sunday in Anaheim with an injured left wrist, is questionable for the Sharks game.

He went through an entire practice Tuesday morning and said he was making progress, but that if the Flyers had played Tuesday night, he would not have been able to go.

The Flyers are listing him as day-to-day.

Del Zotto said he didn't want to come back too soon and make the injury worse.

"It's December right now; it's not something I want to rush back and be out for a month or so," he said. "I'm just trying to take it one step at a time."

Breakaways

Michael Neuvirth, who has not played in the last four games, is expected to start Wednesday. Neuvirth has the NHL's best save percentage (.937) . . . San Jose has the league's worst home record (4-10). The Sharks are 13-6-2 on the road. The Flyers are 7-8-3 on the road, 8-5-4 at home.
