Flyers' Ryan White out 2-4 weeks
The fourth-line winger was injured during the third period of Saturday nights overtime victory at Carolina.
A WEEKEND full of injury announcements and roster changes continued Sunday afternoon for the Flyers. Ryan White was on the unfortunate end of an awkward check from Carolina defenseman John-Michael Liles in the third period of the Flyers' 3-2 overtime win Saturday night in Raleigh, N.C.
White, the Flyers' fourth-line winger, was re-evaluated Sunday and the team announced he'd be sidelined for the next 2-4 weeks with an "upper-body injury."
The update came on the heels of Saturday morning's announcement that defenseman Mark Streit would be out approximately the next six weeks. Streit will undergo surgery Tuesday morning to repair a pubic plate detachment. Streit and winger R.J. Umberger (lower body) were placed on injured reserve Saturday. In order to clear enough salary-cap space for call-ups from Lehigh Valley, Streit was placed on long-term injured reserve.
Shayne Gostisbehere made his season debut and Taylor Leier made his NHL debut Saturday in replacing the injured Flyers.
Each played over two players who previously had seen regular time in the lineup. Gostisbehere, 23, played instead of healthy scratch Evgeny Medvedev on defense while Leier played in place of Brayden Schenn, a healthy scratch for the first time this season.
Gostisbehere was instrumental in the Flyers' game-tying goal late in the third period, which deflected off Wayne Simmonds.
White's departure from the lineup would make it likely Schenn gets back into the lineup Tuesday night against the visiting Kings.
Umberger is reportedly eligible to come off IR Tuesday, as his placement was retroactive to his injury.
