Flyers Notes: Max Talbot injured in Flyers win

Forward Max Talbot, arguably the Flyers' best penalty killer, left Sunday's game with what appeared to be a serious leg injury.

The Flyers called it a "lower-body injury." Based on comments the players made after their wild 5-4 overtime win over Washington, it's likely the veteran forward will be sidelined for a while.

With a little more than a minute remaining in the second period, Talbot collided knee-on-knee with Mike Green. The players got tangled, and Green's skate appeared to hit the back of Talbot's leg.

Talbot, who had scored his fifth goal earlier in the game, was carried to the locker room. A Flyers official said Talbot was not cut on the play, but he did not have any other details.

"He has a big role on the team, and obviously the other guys will have to step up," captain Claude Giroux said.

In a nine-day span, the Flyers have lost three defensemen - Nick Grossmann, Andrej Meszaros, and Braydon Coburn - to injuries. They also have lost forwards Talbot and Danny Briere (concussion).

Briere said Sunday that he still has been experiencing headaches.

Considering that the Flyers allowed just one goal against Boston on Saturday, it was somewhat surprising that coach Peter Laviolette changed his defense for Sunday's game.

Kent Huskins, acquired from Detroit for a conditional 2014 draft pick on Saturday, made his Flyers debut. Huskins, who played for the first time since Feb. 24, replaced Kurtis Foster in the lineup and was paired with Erik Gustafsson.

Huskins, 33, played just 11 games with Detroit this year. He played 15 minutes, 41 seconds Sunday and was minus-1 with three blocked shots.

General manager Paul Holmgren said he does not expect to make any major moves at or before Wednesday's trade deadline. . . . The Flyers had their 99th straight home sellout Sunday. . . . The Flyers are 7-9 when they play games on consecutive nights. They will play their ninth set of back-to-back games Wednesday (vs. Montreal) and Thursday (in Toronto).
