Flyers Notes: Flyers' Rinaldo fined for actions vs. Devils

Flyers center Zac Rinaldo was fined by the league a total of $5,000 as a result of two separate incidents during Saturday's game against the Devils.

Rinaldo was fined $2,500, the maximum allowed under the collective bargaining agreement, for his late hit on Devils center Jacob Josefson at 12:51 of the second period. He was penalized for interference.

Rinaldo also was fined the maximum $2,500 for what was termed his "dangerous trip" of Devils left wing Zach Parise after the whistle at 11:38 of the third period. No penalty was called on that play.

The Flyers hope they can begin Sunday's 1 p.m. matchup at Madison Square Garden against the New York Rangers the way they ended Saturday's 6-4 loss to the visiting New Jersey Devils

After trailing by 6-0 through two periods, the Flyers blitzed the Devils with four goals in final 20 minutes.

"It was frustrating because I really feel we played our best period, but we were down 6-0," said Claude Giroux, who had a goal and an assist. "Hopefully we can get momentum for the next game, and it is going to be a big game for us and we can take that [third period] as a positive even though we lost."

The Rangers lead the Eastern Conference with 69 points in 49 games. The Flyers have 66 points in 51 games.

Sunday's game will be the first meeting between the two since the Rangers' 3-2 win over the Flyers on Jan. 2 at Citizens Bank Park in the Winter Classic. This season the Flyers are 0-3 against the Rangers, having been outscored, 9-4.

Left winger Scott Hartnell didn't mince any words when talking about the first two periods, which ended with the Flyers trailing, 6-0.

"Those first two periods I was embarrassed to be a Philadelphia Flyer," Hartnell said. "We came out with no jam, no intensity."
