The Flyers have signed goaltender Johan Backlund to a multiyear contract extension, general manager Paul Holmgren said Tuesday. Terms were not disclosed.

The 28-year-old native of Sweden appeared in one game with the Flyers last season, going 0-1 with a 3.00 goals-against average.

During the playoffs, Backlund served as a backup in 15 games, playing briefly in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinals against Boston.

The 6-foot-2, 198-pounder spent most of the season with the Adirondack Phantoms of the American Hockey League, going 21-17-2 with a 2.79 goals-against average and a .906 save percentage. He had two shutouts.

Backlund originally signed a one-year contract with the Flyers in March 2009.
