Flyers Notes

Flyers goalie Ray Emery skated for 45 minutes Sunday and told general manager Paul Holmgren afterward that he felt fine.

Nonetheless, Emery sat out his third straight game last night with a sore hip. He had an MRI exam yesterday to try to determine the cause of the soreness.

Holmgren said before last night's game against New Jersey at the Wachovia Center that he had yet to receive the results of the MRI.

Injuries to hip cartilage have become increasingly common in hockey, especially for goalies. Holmgren could not rule out a torn labrum but instead seemed optimistic that Emery's absence would not be long term.

"Everybody seems to think he'll be fine," Holmgren said.

Emery returned from abdominal surgery Jan. 17 and started eight consecutive games before his hip began bothering him. Against the Devils, he was 2-0 with a 2.00 goals-against average and .934 save percentage. Michael Leighton started in goal last night.

Shooting for the all-stars

The Flyers are hoping to bring the NHL All-Star Game and entry draft to Philadelphia. The team submitted proposals to the NHL offices in New York yesterday. The Flyers hope to host one or both events in 2012 or 2013.

There is no All-Star Game this season because NHL players will be taking part in the Olympics. The league has not announced where the 2011 All-Star Game will be played.

The Flyers hosted the All-Star Game in 1976 and 1992.

Primeau on concussions

Former Flyers captain Keith Primeau will speak at a public hearing on a concussion management bill Thursday at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

The hearing of the state's House Majority Policy Committee, hosted by Rep. Tim Briggs (D., Montgomery), will discuss how Pennsylvania can better manage concussions that occur in youth sports.

Primeau has been an advocate of concussion studies since his career was cut short by post-concussion syndrome early in the 2005-06 season. He is director of player development for the Las Vegas Wranglers of the ECHL.

Slapshots

To help fill a Flyers void during the Vancouver Olympics, four of the more interesting games they played this season will be shown on Comcast SportsNet. Among the games will be the Winter Classic that was played New Year's Day against Boston at Fenway Park. The other three games were wins over New Jersey, the Rangers, and Pittsburgh. . . . Last night's was the first of four games in six days for the Flyers, a condensed schedule before the NHL closes down for the Olympics. After this week, the Flyers will resume practice Feb. 24.
