What they're saying about the Eagles

Here's the weekly roundup of what the national media are saying about the Eagles as they prepare for their matchup against the Lions.
Adam Caplan of FoxSports.com reports that Michael Vick can cash in if he gets enough playing time this season:
Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick was already set to earn at least $5.25 million this season, but Vick stands to make even more if he sees a lot of playing time as the season progresses. A source confirmed Vick has playing time and per-game incentives which boost his earning potential to $8 million this season.
Alex Marvez of FoxSports.com says it's not too early for the Eagles to panic:
A potential quarterback controversy and mounting injuries. The start to the Kevin Kolb era was a dud in Sunday’s 27-20 loss to Green Bay. He completed just five of 10 passes for 24 yards before being knocked from the game with a concussion. Although replacement Michael Vick almost led a double-digit comeback, Eagles coach Andy Reid has verbally committed to Kolb as his starter when healthy. That’s easy to say but may not fly inside his team’s locker room. Should the unproven Kolb be forced to miss games, it’s fair to wonder how many Eagles players would want Vick to keep the job if Philadelphia wins. Middle linebacker Stewart Bradley also could be sidelined with a concussion, while two other starters — versatile fullback Leonard Weaver and center Jamaal Jackson — suffered season-ending injuries against the Packers.
The Eagles dropped seven spots to No. 18 in FoxSports.com's weekly power rankings:
Oh, the pain, the pain, Will Robinson, the pain! The Eagles have to put last week's loss and the tough injuries behind them. And they have exactly what the doctor ordered this week in the Lions.
Pete Prisco of CBSSports.com has the Eagles 18th also:
Start the quarterback controversy. I can hear it now: Play Mike Vick. Kevin Kolb deserves half a season before that starts -- or at least another game.
SI.com's Don Banks drops the Eagles five spots to No. 19:
This being Philadelphia, the best conspiracy theory I heard regarding the Eagles' suddenly muddled quarterback situation is that Andy Reid went with Kevin Kolb only to set up Michael Vick for a starring role in relief at some point. Then when Vick sparkled -- as he did in the loss to Green Bay -- Reid could easily elevate him as the real replacement for the departed Donovan McNabb. Right.
Michael Silver of Yahoo Sports ranks the Eagles 18th:
Yo, DeSean Jackson – how’s that whole “Young Guns” thing working out for you so far?
Steve Wyche of NFL.com writes about the injuries the Eagles suffered in Week 1:
While most observers debate whether Kolb or Vick should start at quarterback against Detroit on Sunday, the big losses were center Jamaal Jackson and fullback Leonard Weaver. Jackson tore his triceps in the season-opening loss to Green Bay, and Weaver blew out his ACL. Both have been placed on injured reserve.
NFL.com's Michael Lombardi rips Andy Reid for his use of timeouts in the fourth quarter:
Reid went all-in with his timeout, and even though he got the ball back, his careless use of timeouts was another in a long line of interesting Eagles game-management moves. He never gave his team a chance to be in the best position to tie the game, but because the Eagles got the ball back, the role of game management in their 27-20 loss went unnoticed. At least to most, but not Eagles fans, who have seen this on a infuriatingly consistent basis.
Earlier Thursday, I posted a look at the Eagles' defensive goals, their blitz packages and their personnel.

- I have been a Philly fan, born and raised. Over the course of years, an advocate of fellow Philly fans. HOWEVER, with the onset of the internet, sports blogs, the accelerated diminishing of patience, the widespread posting of moronic whining/hairbrained conspiracy theories, etc. I'm really believing that Philly fans are intolerable stupid arses. It is really disgusting to read what some angry, perhaps drunken, moron takes a second to post on a forum like this.... is displayed like a billboard of stupidity for days on end. I'm really starting to hate other Philly fans. Since I was born and raised, unlike many "fans" across the USA, I plan on remaining a Philly sports fan. Birthright for me. Win, or lose. road515
Welp..they are writing of Kolb,,and Andy...and if Vick flops on Sunday (most likely) they'll be wanting to move the team to Oakland..Iggle fans are morons....period! merlinknghts- Start Vick and Reid will be alright elijah29
I'm not a Reid supporter, but the time out calls were not the problem. If they weren't called, Green Bay would have run the clock down. As it was, the Eagles got the ball back with over 4 and half minutes left, and still had the 2 minute warning. They had the ball down to Green Bays 42 at the 2 minute warning. Plenty of time to score. Reids stupidty was his call to have Vick run right into the line from shotgun. The call should have been Vick over center, with a play action. Vick basically adlibed most of the afternoon to get them back in the game. Once Andy got his paws involved on that last call, it was disaster. watsonmr
Can't argue with Lombardi about time management. Another head coaching question: is Bobby April getting the things he needs to make special teams go? I'm an Andy Reid supporter, but even if we had a Super Bowl roster, he seems to do just enough to make a Super Bowl win impossible. tacklinjoe
Comment removed.- If you are advocating that the Eagles fire Reid you are:
A) A Moron
B) A Cowgirls Fan
C) Have zero understanding of football
D) All of the above
reids a winner!! top 5 coach period! don't like reid root for the redskins & spray tan guy!!! love 2 see u reid haters coach the birds talk about downward spiral. LOL first down
I remember everyone saying the same thing about Mcnabb, "that it is time to go", get it right it was never Mcnabb it was Reid so just like a H@@ker lay back and take it will69
Cowher > Gruden. Dean1
The folks who are complaining about the timeouts amaze me with their ignorance. If they hadn't used them when they did, the clock would have run out sooner. Dopes. It had no impact at all on the outcome of the game. andimike- Call me crazy but Vick has the ability to carry this team into the playoffs, i don't know if as a fan i can go through watching kolb have a horrible season, as he should. Hell, McNabb wasn't this bad in his rookie year lol Kolb didn't show any signs of life in the preseason and in one half of football he should have been intercepted at least 3 times. We traded McNabb for this dude?? God help us all. ~ PingasMan out!!!
Why isn't more being made of Reid's use of Timeouts and that fraud Bobby April GIVING UP 50 YARDS PER KICKOFF RETURN. Reid is clueless. brmorgen81
Fire Andy Reid is right, in more ways than 1. Yes, JJ's defense and McNabb's pure athleticism made AR look like a better coach than he was, and his title is correct too, Fire Andy Reid (or MM, or both). How much can Lurie tolerate of this WCO? It doesn't matter if it's KK or Vick, the game plans stink and it's predictability leaves our players in bad spots. There's probably 100,000 ten year olds playing Madden who could do a better job of play-calling than these two baffoons running the show for the Birds. Bleue
Jon Gruden!!!! 2011.
Go Vick! osi is hurt boohoo
reid's gotta go. after 11 seasons, it is clear he will NEVER win a super bowl. jim johnson's defenses carried this team the first part of the past decade, and now this team is in a slow downward spiral. Fire Andy Reid
