Eagles survive against Lions

The Eagles survived a furious rally by the Lions, defeating Detroit, 35-32, for their first win of the season.

With under seven minutes left in the fourth quarter, the Eagles seemingly had the game in hand with a 35-17 lead. But the Lions scored a pair of touchdowns and recovered an onsides kick with under two minutes left to make things interesting.

The Eagles' defense came up with a fourth-down stop, though, to escape with a win.

Michael Vick and LeSean McCoy led the offensive surge. Vick completed over 61 percent of his passes (21-of-34) for 284 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. McCoy carried 16 times for 120 yards and three touchdowns.

After the Eagles went down 17-7 in the second quarter, they scored 28 straight, with the offense getting in the end zone on four of seven possessions.

DeSean Jackson, who averaged less than 29 receiving yards per game in his last four (going back to last season), came up huge with four catches for 135 yards.

The Eagles relied heavily on big plays. On four of their five scoring drives, the offense had a play of 25 yards or more. Three of those came courtesy of Jackson.

Defensively, the Eagles allowed 32 points and 444 yards. Journeyman quarterback Shaun Hill threw for 335 yards. Lions running back Jahvid Best accounted for 232 yards and three touchdowns.

Brandon Graham came up with his first career sack but left the game in the second half with an apparent shoulder injury.

Rookie Nate Allen came up with his second interception in as many games.

The Eagles scored touchdowns on all three red zone possessions and did not turn the ball over. Vick was sacked five times.

The Eagles are 1-1, which puts them ahead of the Cowboys, who lost to the Bears and are 0-2. As of this post, the Redskins and Giants have yet to play.

The Birds travel to Jacksonville to take on the Jaguars in Week 3.
