UDFAs and the Eagles

The Eagles have signed 13 undrafted rookies since the draft ended, and while many will simply come and go at Lehigh this summer, history says at least one of them, and maybe more, will make the roster and some could have long NFL careers.

At the end of last season the Eagles had 12 undrafted players on their 53-man roster and two more on injured reserve. They included Jason Peters -- probably the best left tackle in the game -- and longtime starters or contributors Cullen Jenkins, Joselio Hanson, Jon Dorenbos, Jamaal Jackson and Juqua Parker, plus rising special teams ace Colt Anderson (who was one of the two on IR).

Other undrafted Eagles when last season ended were Antonio Dixon, Akeem Jordan, Chad Hall, Phillip Hunt, Tom Nelson, Chas Henry and Cedric Thornton.

The most eye-catching name in this year's class is running back Chris Polk, who ran for more than 1,100 yards each of the past three seasons at Washington and caught more than 20 passes each year -- a key talent for Eagles backs. But Polk has been plagued by injury and medical concerns, dropping him out of the draft.

Another interesting name to watch will be punter Ryan Tydlacka of Kentucky. Chas Henry finished 25th in punting average last year and 27th in average net.

Other free agents the Eagles signed are:

-- WR Elvis Akpla (Montana State)

-- LS Matt Camilli (UTEP - same school as Dorenbos)

-- TE Chase Ford (Miami)

-- CB Cliff Harris (Oregon)

-- FB Emil Igwenagu (UMass)

-- WR McKay Jacobson (BYU)

-- WR Damaris Johnson (Tulsa)

-- WR Aaron Pflugrad (Arizona State)

-- FB Jeremy Stewart (Stanford)

-- WR Darnell Williams (Louisiana College)
