Paul Domowitch's Redskins-Eagles Report Card

POSTED: Monday, October 4, 2010, 3:26 AM

Here are Daily News columnist Paul Domowitch's grades for the Eagles' 17-12 loss to the Redskins at Lincoln Financial Field. You can add your own grades by voting on our poll page here.

RUSHING OFFENSE

Running backs LeSean McCoy and Mike Bell only ran the ball 19 times as the Eagles used the short pass as a replacement for the run. McCoy, who rushed for 64 yards on 16 carries, caught a career-high 12 passes for 110 yards. QBs Kevin Kolb and Mike Vick rushed for 38 yards on five carries.

Grade: C

PASSING OFFENSE

The fact that the Eagles allowed only one sack isn’t indicative of the way the offensive line played. It struggled all game to protect the QB and was flagged four times for holding. Kevin Kolb had several throws that were nearly picked off. WRs DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin combined for just four catches for 34 yards.

Grade: C-minus

RUN DEFENSE

Two weeks ago, Ryan Torain was on the Redskins’ practice squad. He rushed for 70 yards and a touchdown against the Eagles. Ran right over strong safety Quintin Mikell for a tone-setting, 12-yard score 3 minutes into the game. A ground game that had managed just 10 rushing first downs the first 3 weeks racked up eight against the Eagles to go with 169 yards.

Grade: D

PASS DEFENSE

Donovan McNabb completed just eight of 19 passes, but a pair of mistakes by the Eagles gave them 10 of their 17 points. TE Chris Cooley split the linebackers on a seam route on his 31-yard, first-quarter TD catch. And rookie safety Kurt Coleman let Anthony Armstrong get behind him for a 57-yard catch that set up a Redskins field goal. Eagles also let McNabb break containment on a critical, 18-yard third-down play.

Grade: C-minus

SPECIAL TEAMS

Punter Sav Rocca averaged 49.6 yards, but had a poor 34.6 net average. Eagles gave up a 53-yard punt return to Brandon Banks that kick-started the Redskins’ first scoring drive. David Akers made both of his FG attempts, including a 49-yarder.

Grade: C-plus

OVERALL

A defense that dominated Jacksonville for four quarters allowed the Redskins to waltz down and score on their first three possessions. The offensive line continued to struggle, getting called for four holding penalties. And Andy Reid screwed up a touchdown opportunity at the end of the first half when he was slow to get personnel on the field with the ball on the 1-yard line and took a delay-of-game penalty.

Grade: F

"Phink: Andy Reid's overall grade for his career: F-!!!!! Time to get that buffoon out of here. Enough of his constant bungling already!"

Reid has one of the best career records in NFL. They lost a game they should have won when their best quarterback went down and they are still at top of NFC East...sheesh.

Different QB, same coach with the same problem of time management. Reid so just hire a stay at home mom to come to the games and keep an eye on the clock for him.

I would like to see Kolb throw farther than 3 1/2 yards. Maybe he's left handed and doesn't know it?

Thanks Andy et al, we needed the help after going up 14-0 and then forgetting how to play football the last three quarters. Even Carlos "Santa" Rogers was more generous than usual-I lost count of how many picks he muffed! Looking forward to the rematch in DC, should be fun!

Pretty obvious that the Iggs stink only the skins aren't much better. With all the injuries in the league teams will have to have 70 man squads before long. Both losses could've been wins but that's not any consolation because these teams all look terrible. The 49ers are horrible with Smith and Singletary seems a bit nutty but their D is ok. Klob beter be wearing armor. Rumor is Red is looking for Garcia.

What happened to the great eagles defense that stopped the Giants on fourth down TWICE in the playoffs? This defense needs to get back to tackling better, and not give up so many yards on the ground. Eagles defenses used to be in the top five in almost all categories. Mcdermot's got to work harder with this defense. Also Bobby April has got to go because specal teams have been horrible (bring back Rory Seacrest. Is that his name?).

I think that Bill1966 is the epitome of evil. He wants a man, who paid his debt to society, to drown...Bill1966, you need God...something has to get Satan out of life. Good luck when you die.

Watch now as Domowitch, Eskin, Reuben Frank and others take their cues from the NovaCare complex, ripping McNabb's rating for the game. The Eagles paid for their smugness today; the fans deserve an Eagles Super Bowl championship, and they don't need sports writers catering to owners or management. How McNabb plays for the Redskins isn't the real issue; the issue is - how committed are the Eagles to WINNING the Super Bowl?

The only consolation to the game was that McNabb was the worst of the 3 QB's that played...
