McNabb gets his revenge

POSTED: Sunday, October 3, 2010, 7:30 PM

Donovan McNabb was anything but perfect but the former Eagles quarterback did enough to lead the Redskins past his old team, 17-12, upon his return to Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday.

McNabb, cheered during his introduction, essentially clinched the game when he scrambled 18 yards for a first down on third-and-four from his own 22-yard line. The Eagles had narrowed the Redskins' margin to five with a little over four minutes left, but McNabb guided his offense into Eagles territory and milked the clock down to close to a minutre left.

Kevin Kolb, who replaced the injured Michael Vick in the second quarter, could not drive the Eagles to the winning touchdown. He had 1:07 to work with and had to travel 74 yards with no timeouts left.

After a roller coaster first half, but defenses ruled the day as McNabb struggled and Kolb and the Eagles offense failed to generate a spark.

McNabb completed only 8 of 19 passes for 125 yards. He threw a beauty of a 32-yard score to tight end Chris Cooley in the first half, but tossed an interception in the third quarter.

The game took a dramatic turn when Vick left with a rib/chest injury after he ran for a near-touchdown. That play, however, was reversed when Eagles guard Max Jean-Gilles was called for holding.

The game-turning moment, however, had to be when Eagles coach Andy Reid failed to realize just before the half when the officials had re-started the game clock after he called a timeout on fourth-and-one on the Washington 1-yard line. The Eagles were pushed back five yards and had to settle for a field goal and a 17-6 deficit at the half.

Yeah, Avant should have caught that Hail Mary thrown into triple coverage. It's his fault, not the QB.

Worms were killed today. Yet as familiarly inept as McNabb looked for most of the game(60-something QB rating!),it was still enough to beat our responsibility-challenged coach. Andy's gotta do a better job...BUT HE WON"T...HE WON'T...he needs to find ANOTHER job!

The Eagles gave this one away in spite of Kolb's terrible game. Terrible punt coverage on the skins' first TD; needless horse collar on Mikell; 3 critical holding penalties that negated big plays; McCoy fumble during the 3rd qtr drive; Avant Dropped TD at the end; Blown clock management on the 1 yard line.

That's the best Kolb can do? Makes me wonder how well he prepared. 5 and 8 yard throws??? Guys open 20 yards downfield all day. Vick made best of his chance. Can't say same thing for that oak Kolb. Hope Vick can be back in couple of weeks or its a 5-11 season.

Kolb will get crucified for executing the "Underneath" game plan put in by the coaches. ALL of Vick's throws were "Underneath" too. That was Reid's dumb gameplan and just like everything he was too stubborn to adjust it.

Several worms died and several teams lost today. The Eagles represent both.

Thanks to the Philly fans who cheered McNabb. That was classy and a super put-down to characters like Angelo Caltaldi and his crew who have a lot of class but it's all low.

kolb looks like he's gonna be a good pro he has the same look Rogers ahd a couple years ago,...looked like he wanted to do more than what they were letting him do,...has a lot of poise in there and wants to be unleashed,...he jus has that look in his eye,...i blame the coaches especially morhninweg for being too vanilla,...we shudda beat this team,..we're more talented just more of the same old stuff of the last 10 years;...lost to a team we shudda beat and the division was ours for the taking (iao)
