Egboh signed to practice squad, Jackson upbeat about Kolb

POSTED: Wednesday, October 13, 2010, 9:24 AM

DeSean Jackson was upbeat about playing with Kevin Kolb, during Jackson's weekly appearance Tuesday night on Comcast SportsNet's "Daily News Live," even though Kolb doesn't seem to be able to get the ball to Jackson as often or as far down the field as Michael Vick does.

Asked about the fact that his catches from Vick have accounted for nearly three times as many yards as his catches from Kolb (granted, in a really small statistical sample either way), Jackson didn't give a direct answer.

"Anything I can do to help the team, I'll do," Jackson said, contending he doesn't keep track of such things. He also noted that "I'm not the quarterback."

Asked specifically about Kolb's performance in leading the Eagles to a 27-24 victory at San Francisco Sunday night, Jackson said: "We have confidence in him . . . I think he came in and did a good job, especially after all the hype with Vick," who replaced Kolb as the starter after Kolb missed the second game of the season with a concussion.

Jackson praised Kolb for doing "smart things . . . key things on third down."

Jackson suffered what he afterward referred to as a knee "twist" late in Sunday's game. Last night, Jackson called the injury "nothing too serious," and said "I'll be all right" for this week's game against the visiting Falcons.

Jackson was asked about the fact that he hasn't been able to break a punt return yet, as the Birds' special-teams units struggle.

"Punt return is a hit or miss thing," he said. "I always tell the guys, 'All I need is a little, slight crease.' "

The Eagles signed defensive end Panell Egboh to the practice squad.

Egboh was claimed by the Eagles on Aug. 31 and played in the final preseason game this season, registering a sack and forced fumble, but was released as part of the team’s final roster cutdown. A four-year letterman at Stanford University, Egboh originally entered the league as an undrafted free agent with San Francisco last year and spent time on the Houston Texans practice squad that season.

He takes the spot previously occupied by wide receiver Chad Hall, who made his NFL debut Sunday after being signed to the 53-man roster Saturday.

The Eagles released defensive end Antwan Barnes to make room for Hall and had thought about bringing Barnes back but opted against it. Barnes signed with the San Diego Chargers yesterday.

But Ashley Fox said that Jackson's Jekyll and Hyde-like statistics show how badly he wants Vick to play!

Philly_Mike, thats because he has a great PR person workin for him. Im sure his agent has told many times to cause any type of ruckus this season.

A more balanced, less ridiculous article than Fox's:

so what? every bigtime football player has a PR person, but most don't listen and still say stupid things to the media. desean has been nothing but a professional since he's been here. the only thing anyone can complain about is when he dropped the ball before he got into the end zone. other than that, he's been a pleasure to watch and a consummate team player. there were other players (some less talented) who made huge deals about their contracts this offseason. some of them weren't as grossly underpaid as jackson either and they made a big stink. d-jack is much more mature and professional than people give him credit for.

everyone is blowing it out of proportion if u look at the 2 games last year djack caught like 10 balls for 250 yrds and 2 tds so he knows kolb can get him the ball its just a matter of what the defense has given him

igglephanchris - just playing devil's advocate here, as I agree this isn't much of a deal here, but out of those "250 yards and 2 tds" about 200 yards of that was YAC...just saying

Anyone who watched Jackson's reaction when Vick was named the starter on that same show knows exactly where this guy's allegiance lies. Everyone knows BABYARM doesn't have what it takes to get it down the field where Jackson is most effective.

Jackson is patiently waiting for free agency where he will get a four year $45M deal. How many great receivers are team players with good character? e.g. Andre Johnson jsut got his money.

I think we should throw more passes to Ricky Watters out of the backfield. Oops, wrong article

Funny, when Djax was supposedly going to Kolb last year for advice he was a "Young Gun". When he supposedly wanted Kolb to be the starter he and Kolb were going to set the world on fire. But now that there's trouble in paradise he's SheSean. How predictable. How DARE he throw a monkey wrench into the Kolb machinery. Can't fault DJax for seeing what anyone with a pair of eyes can see wiff. Vick is the better match for DJax. But of coarse as usual, anyone who does not toe the Kolb line with the wiffster earns one of those dreaded nicknames. I'm sure DJax is upset and won't be able to sleep now. And SheSean? Lame wiff, really lame. Like all the others.Nothing like being objective wiff. Try it sometime. Hey, we should discuss Blech Favre sometime. Remember when one of us said the Vikes would regret signing that idiot? Who was that again? Hahahahahaha. Kolb to Minny. Book it.

This is a no win situation for DeSean. It's obvious he and Vick are made for each other but Vick won't be here long term. Someone will offer him big bucks next year. So D-Jax will just have to deal with Kolb for a few games this year a nd all of next.
BTW tpizza,I think McNabb is going to the Vikes next year.

mtairy, I agree about McNabb. My Kolb comment was just a little dig at wiff who predicted Kolb to Minny that last week. Of course that was after he bailed on Favre, one of his heroes. McNabb makes perfect sense. I do think that Kolb may be trade bait though. There is just too big a mismatch between Kolb and our receivers. Kolb is better at dink and dunk while our receivers are too small to play that game. Vick is the better option.

Tpizza, please pass that insight along to Banner and Reid. Vick is perfect for this receiving corp. Unfortunately he's going to be 31 before next season and this organization doesn't like to give big bucks to players in their 30's. I'm afraid they're going to let him walk and put all their faith in the younger Kolb.

Are you supposed to believe something just because it is on the internet? Why do these writers not do their research before they make asinine assertions. Who says Kolb can't get the ball to Jackson as well as Vick? Where is the "in-depth" research? All you have to do is go back to September of 2009 to see that Kolb CAN get the ball to DeSean as well as or better than Vick. In last year's games against NO and KC when Kolb was the QB, Jackson had 10 catches for 250 yards and two TD's. I'm no math major, but that comes out 25 yards per catch, slightly better than 23 yards per catch this season with Vick. It kills me that these writers can just say anything whether or not it can be substantiated, just to make a story or cause a reaction. Do your homework.
