The Eagles are likely to sign center/guard Steve Vallos on Tuesday, an NFL source said.

CSNPhilly.com first reported that Vallos was returning to the Eagles. He was at the NovaCare Complex on Monday for a visit.

The Eagles released the 28-year-old offensive lineman before the opener. But with Jason Kelce sidelined at least four weeks after he tore ligaments in his right knee in Sunday's game against the Ravens, the team needed to add some depth to their line.

Vallos (6-foot-3, 312 pounds) will likely replace Kelce, who will be placed on the Injured Reserve-designated return list, on the 53-man roster.

Dallas Reynolds will start at center in place of Kelce Sunday against Arizona, Eagles coach Andy Reid said. Vallos would likely dress and backup Reynolds at center. He would also provide depth at guard.

The Eagles first signed Vallos in March. He played well enough during the preseason to be one of the final cuts on Aug. 31. Reynolds edged Vallos out for a roster spot. As a vested veteran, if Vallos had initially made the team his salary would have been guaranteed for the entire season.

Vallos was drafted by the Seahawks in the seventh round of the 2007 draft and spent that year on the team's practice squad. In 2008 and 2009, he played in all 16 games and started in eight. He spent the 2010-11 seasons in Cleveland and played in only two games.
