Agent expects Jamaal Jackson to be released
Jonathan Tamari
The agent for center Jamaal Jackson expects the veteran Eagle to be released once the NFL's new league year begins in March.
"It would surprise me greatly if they did not release him," said Jackson's agent, J.R. Rickert, "but that's a team decision."
Jackson is the longest tenured Eagle, having joined the team in 2003 as an undrafted free agent, and he started every game in 2006, 2007 and 2008 and the first 15 of 2009 before tearing his anterior cruciate ligament at the end of that season. He came back for the 2010 opener but tore his triceps, and lost his starting job this past summer to rookie Jason Kelce.
Jackson never complained about his demotion, but after the Eagles season finale told reporters that he still believes he can play in the NFL.
If he is released, "I'll work actively to pursue our options around the league at center and guard," Rickert said.
We'll have more from Jackson himself later this week.
It looks like he made about $1.5 million in 2011 and I can't ever remember hearing his name mentioned during a game. Not bad money for sitting on the bench all season. fischman

Probably ripe for release what with the injuries. BEMiller
If he isn't going to fit in Mudd's offense then might as well release him. He's a good player. He's better than Kelce IMO, but apparently Kelce is the prototypical o-lineman/center that Mudd wants in his system. Mudd better be around for years to come. BleedPhilly
If Mudd doesn't come back, no oline coach is going to want Kelce as their center. Jackson should have no problem finding another team, he is much more an ideal type center for the rest of the league. mjc1
Can't complain about any of the linemen this year, but I think Jackson deserves a full shot at starting guard or center next August. armchairGM
When I first read the "tease" I was hoping it was Sean J. , or whatever name he's going by. The talent is there for the birds to rock the next season, like it's never been rocked before. We just don't need the extreme egos. See ya Sean !!! Breh- Wow, some fan. Doesn't even know his name. Loser.

Amazing group of "experts". "--better than Kelce"; "--no coach is going to want Kelce", etc.
Amazing how you geniuses can be so expert from watching on your big screen. How come you're not coachin? Should be in great demand with such insight. Most of us are content to be fans and enjoy the game. I thought that was what a game was for. J Ziggy
Jaamal has been a good soldier. I am sure his experience contributed to our "Rook" Kelce success on the field and Mike's transition to calling the Line Protections in Mudd's scheme. Thank's Jaamal good luck trinieagle
kelce is a good player in a year or 2 maybe probowl wcm65
Jackson played 16 snaps at center. He made no mistakes and pancaked at least two dudes. Kelce, meanwhile, grades out atrociously for the year. I don't know what people saw that was so great from Kelce other than a few isolated downfield blocks on screens. Kelce was awful. While everyone blathers on about Vick's personal responsibility to spare him from injury Kelce alone bled half of the total sacks straight up the middle. A full-speed DT coming straight up the gut unhindered and full-speed is a danger for any QB in the NFL. Kelce was worst in the league among centers for total QB pressure allowed (sacks+hits+pressures), allowing 4 times more pressure per snap than the league leader (Nick Hardwick of SD). I think benching Jackson and going with Kelce was a critical decision that sacrificed the 2011 season in exchange for the 2012 season. Kelce did well with screens and with reads but he allowed Vick to get killed.
Jackson has been a great player for the Eagles before his injuries the last two years. The few snaps he made the field he looked powerful. Whoever picks him up will be very happy.
HeelYes- I have to disagree...to a point. Kelce started off terrible, as expected. A six-round rookie is hardly ever expected to make a big impact off the bat. He, probably unfairly, was thrown in a starting role too early. To his credit, he improved as the season wore on. His job against Ratliff a couple of weeks ago was pretty solid. I only see him getting better next season. No offense, but I'll take Mudd's evaluation over yours.
And while I like Profootballfocus, their numbers don't always add up or tell the entire story. phillychaos
Philly Fans in August and September where saying Kelce and Watkins were "Wasted" picks. They were calling for Jackson's return to the starting position.
Did anyone really miss Jackson?
Jackson could never get out into the secondary to post a block to spring Shady on a sweep or screen like this Kelce kid showed regularly.
Eagles Fans, and some of the sports writers were saying to shelf those kids.
Dexter- Best O-Line in football. Loved ya when you were around, Jamaal, but see ya. Best of luck starting for the Rams next season. thefadd
