Ryan Mathews 'ready to go' against Redskins

Ryan Mathews practiced Wednesday for the first time since he injured his knee Nov. 20. The Eagles' leading rusher is expected to play Sunday against the Washington Redskins.

"He's good to play," coach Doug Pederson said. "He's cleared and ready to go."

Mathews missed two games. The Eagles rushed for only 134 yards combined in those games, although early deficits contributed to a pass-heavy attack.

"With the addition of Ryan coming back, it definitely gives us depth and a bigger back there," Pederson said, "and hopefully we can get back to running the ball like we did a few weeks ago."

Wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham missed practice with an abdominal injury (oblique). Tackle Halapoulivaati Vaitai also missed practice with a knee injury, and is not expected to play Sunday.

Wide receiver Jordan Matthews (ankle) practiced on a limited basis and is expected to be back in the lineup. That could affect the role of rookie Paul Turner, who had six catches for 80 yards last Sunday. Pederson said there would still be ways for the Eagles to get Turner involved.

"These are things we talked about the last couple of days as a staff, getting Paul in there, even with Jordan coming back," Pederson said. "I think it can be a benefit to the offense to have both of those guys ready to go."

Suspended right tackle Lane Johnson is not eligible to return until Week 16, but the coaching staff is already having discussions about what to do when he's eligible to return. Johnson would have spent 10 weeks away from the team by that point, and the Eagles have a short week with a Thursday game to determine whether to insert him right back into the lineup.

Johnson "was a big part of our success early in the season, so I wouldn't hesitate to put him back in there," Pederson said.
