Green-Beckham's injury leaves Eagles even shorter at WR

CINCINNATI - Eagles wide receiver Jordan Matthews missed Sunday's 32-14 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals because of a sprained ankle. Nelson Agholor rejoined the lineup after last week's benching.

CINCINNATI - Eagles wide receiver Jordan Matthews missed Sunday's 32-14 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals because of a sprained ankle. Nelson Agholor rejoined the lineup after last week's benching.

The Eagles played Agholor, Dorial Green-Beckham, Paul Turner, and Bryce Treggs at wide receiver. Green-Beckham exited the game in the fourth quarter with a rib injury, leaving the Eagles with three receivers. There was no update on Green-Beckham's injury after the game.

Agholor started and finished with four catches for 23 yards. He considered it progress compared to where he was a week ago, when he was inactive.

"The most important thing for me is focus on me right now," said Agholor, who had confidence problems after a Nov. 20 loss to Seattle. ". . . The lesson I thought I truly learned from last week was something that I love so much I didn't have the opportunity to do. So now I didn't care if I ran go routes every play and the ball didn't come my way. As long as I got to put my cleats on and play with my teammates and play the game that I love, I was happy about it."

Matthews, who has a sprained ankle, was questionable for the game. There was optimism earlier in the week that he would be able to play, and he even returned to the practice field Thursday. Matthews was sore after that session and missed practice Friday, a bad sign about the progress of his recovery. It was the first regular-season game Matthews has ever missed.

Turner benefited from more playing time and finished with six catches for 80 yards. His first career reception was a 41-yarder.

The inactive list

The other inactive players were running back Ryan Mathews (knee), right tackle Halapoulivaati Vaitai (knee), defensive end Steven Means, defensive tackle Taylor Hart, and reserve offensive linemen Josh Andrews and Dillon Gordon.

Allen Barbre started in Vaitai's place for the second consecutive week, with Stefen Wisniewski replacing Barbre at left guard.

Rookie Wendell Smallwood started at running back, but he was limited to only eight carries and 19 yards.

Extra points

Carson Wentz became the fourth quarterback in franchise history to throw at least 60 passes. Nick Foles, Randall Cunningham, and Davey O'Brien were the others. . . . The Eagles failed to score more than 24 points for the ninth consecutive game. They topped that total in each of their first three games. . . . The Eagles did not record an interception for the third consecutive game. They had at least one interception in each of the previous five games.
