Peters and Jenkins are injured at practice

Two of the Eagles' best players left practice early Thursday. Jason Peters departed with a quadriceps injury, and Malcolm Jenkins went to the locker room with a hamstring injury.

The severity of both injuries was not reported.

Peters' injury is notable because the left tackle had lingering injuries last season, and he missed two starts. One of those ailments was with his quadriceps, which he said was related to a back injury. Matt Tobin took Peters' place with the first-team offense on Thursday.

Jenkins has not missed a game since coming to the Eagles in 2014, and he took more snaps than any defensive player during the last two seasons. Ed Reynolds took Jenkins' place with the first-team defense.

The injuries to Peters and Jenkins are just the latest to key starters. Right guard Brandon Brooks, out with a hamstring injury, and running back Ryan Mathews (ankle) have not practiced during training camp. The Eagles are also missing rookie running back Wendell Smallwood, who is still out with a quadriceps injury.

Rookie waived

The Eagles waived rookie defensive lineman Connor Wujciak with a shoulder injury. If Wujciak clears waivers, he reverts to injured reserve. By making the transaction now, the Eagles open a spot on their 90-man roster.

Wujciak, 23, signed as an undrafted free agent after the draft. He was in competition for a backup spot at defensive tackle before the injury.

The Eagles have seven defensive tackles on the roster: Fletcher Cox, Bennie Logan, Mike Martin, Beau Allen, Taylor Hart, Aziz Shittu, and Destiny Vaeao.

Be more consistent

Cornerback Eric Rowe still has not cracked the starting rotation, and defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz said the 2015 second-round pick must become more consistent. Rowe started five games last season, but he's behind veterans Leodis McKelvin, Nolan Carroll, and Ron Brooks, who take most of the work with the starters.

"He's still a young player," Schwartz said. "Everybody wants to make him [out to be] a seasoned vet. He started for about half a year [last season], and he is changing schemes. But we're also through our OTAs and we're through our mini-camp, and we're through a little bit more than a week of [training] camp. And we've got to start putting those inconsistencies behind us, and I'm not just talking about Eric. I'm talking about every guy on defense."
