Brandon Brooks missed his first training camp practice Thursday with the Eagles because of a hamstring injury. The starting right guard is considered day-to-day.

Brooks signed a five-year, $40 million contract with the Eagles during the offseason to upgrade the interior of the offensive line. There was no word on when the injury occurred - the team had a conditioning test Thursday morning before afternoon practice. The Eagles return to practice Friday morning.

Stefen Wisniewski took snaps at right guard with the first-team offense in Brooks' absence.

How they lined up

Cornerback Ron Brooks remained with the first-team defense during the first practice with veterans. He played the slot in nickel situations, with Nolan Carroll playing the outside. Second-year cornerback Eric Rowe practiced with the second-team defense.

Allen Barbre played left guard with the first-team offense, just as he did during the spring. He is the favorite to start at left guard this season. Darren Sproles was the top running back with Ryan Mathews on the non-football injury list because of an ankle injury.

The Eagles had a "10-10-10" practice, which is a design the team used often under Andy Reid. It involves cycles of 10 offensive plays, 10 defensive plays, and 10 minutes of special teams. They were forced indoors because of the thunderstorm in the area.

A magical time

Long-snapper Jon Dorenbos was on the practice field, but his schedule is still uncertain as he advances on television's America's Got Talent for his magic. Dorenbos might miss one or two practices because of filming, but he said he would not miss games. He has coordinated the schedule with the Eagles and NBC.

"The team has been supportive, and the days are absolutely minimal as far as the conflicting schedule," Dorenbos said. "NBC has been unbelievable, too. We're going to make it work. It's not going to affect games. It's not going to affect much time. I'm super excited for the opportunity. To play here for so long and to get the support of the city and the organization, I kind of got emotional."
