Eagles 2016 draft picks at a glance
Carson Wentz First round, second overall Position: QB College: North Dakota St. Height: 6-5 Weight: 237 Outlook: Wentz is the potential franchise quarterback that the organization craved and paid a steep price to acquire. Look for Wentz to sit behind Sam Bradford and Chase Daniel, but when he's ready, he'll be the starter and the team's marquee player.
Carson Wentz
First round, second overall
Position: QB College: North Dakota St.
Height: 6-5 Weight: 237
Outlook: Wentz is the potential franchise quarterback that the organization craved and paid a steep price to acquire. Look for Wentz to sit behind Sam Bradford and Chase Daniel, but when he's ready, he'll be the starter and the team's marquee player.
Isaac Seumalo
Third round, 79th overall
Position: OL College: Oregon St.
Height: 6-4 Weight: 303
Outlook: The Eagles think Seumalo can play five positions on the offensive line. Seumalo will compete for a starting spot at left guard, and at the least will be a versatile reserve as a rookie.
Wendell Smallwood
Fifth round, 153rd overall
Position: RB College: West Virginia
Height: 5-10 Weight: 208
Outlook: The leading rusher in the Big 12 last season is a Wilmington native with big-play potential who can try to earn playing time behind Ryan Mathews and Darren Sproles. The Eagles were satisfied enough with his off-field issues to select him.
Halapoulivaati Vaitai
Fifth round, 164th overall
Position: OT College: Texas Christian
Height: 6-6 Weight: 320
Outlook: Vaitai is a big, athletic lineman the team can develop. The Eagles wanted a promising tackle prospect out of this draft, and Vaitai can learn behind Jason Peters and Lane Johnson.
Blake Countess
Sixth round, 196th overall
Position: DB College: Auburn
Height: 5-9 Weight: 184
Outlook: Although he was not invited to the combine, the once-heralded recruit can play cornerback and safety and contribute on special teams. The Eagles earmarked him as a player they wanted this weekend.
Jalen Mills
Seventh round, 233rd overall
Position: S College: Louisiana State
Height: 6-0 Weight: 191
Outlook: A four-year starter who slipped in the draft because of injury and off-field problems, Mills has potential to be a notable player if he's past the issues from college.
Alex McCalister
Seventh round, 240th overall
Position: DE College: Florida
Height: 6-6 Weight: 239
Outlook: McCalister has size and athleticism. He's a project with off-field red flags, but the Eagles will see whether they can make something out of that body. He can still add strength to his frame.
Joe Walker
Seventh round, 251st overall
Position: LB College: Oregon
Height: 6-2 Weight: 236
Outlook: Even though he was a late-seventh-round pick, Walker has a chance to earn a roster spot at a position that lacks depth. The former junior-college standout led Oregon in tackles last season.
