Marcus Smith posts first sack in his two seasons

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Eagles linebacker Marcus Smith recorded the first full sack of his career in the last game of his second season.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Eagles linebacker Marcus Smith recorded the first full sack of his career in the last game of his second season.

The 2014 first-round pick has been a disappointment through his first two seasons, but he took advantage of extended playing time Sunday in a 35-30 win over the New York Giants. Smith finished with two tackles, one sack, and two quarterback hits.

"I showed that I can get to the quarterback," Smith said. "That's what I did in college, and that's what I could do here."

Smith said he was told he would "get a lot more snaps" on Sunday. He said he wanted to provide good film for the next coach. He insisted that the Eagles picked him for a reason and that he does not put pressure on himself.

"I was happy he got his first sack," outside linebacker Connor Barwin said. "He went in there and played well. I think . . . people wanted to see him go out there and get a little more action. I thought he went out there and did well."

Murray: No regrets

DeMarco Murray finished the season with 633 rushing yards and 3.5 yards per carry. His 5.8 yards per carry on Sunday was his best average in a game this season and he scored on a season-long 54-yard touchdown run. It was a positive ending to the least productive season of Murray's career.

"I wouldn't say I regret anything," Murray told reporters. "Whether it's good or bad, that's what shapes you as a person. That's the resolve. You want to grow from the bad things, and you also learn from the positive. So I would never say I regret anything."

Injuries

Tight end Brent Celek left the game with a concussion. Wide receiver Nelson Agholor was tested for a concussion but he was cleared to return.

The inactive players were cornerback Byron Maxwell (shoulder), cornerback Jaylen Watkins (shin), wide receiver Seyi Ajirotutu (ankle), quarterback Thad Lewis, wide receiver Jonathan Krause, linebacker Steven Means, and offensive lineman Tanner Hawkinson.

Randall Evans, who was promoted from the practice squad on Saturday, played his first career game. Offensive lineman Barrett Jones was active for the first time this season, but he did not play.

The schedule

The Eagles' 2016 schedule is set. Their home games are against the Cowboys, Giants, Redskins, Packers, Vikings, Browns, Steelers, and Falcons. They will visit Dallas, Washington, the Giants, Chicago, Detroit, Baltimore, Cincinnati, and Seattle.
