Eagles Notes: Wolff, a starter last week, inactive vs. Panthers

One week after starting at safety, Earl Wolff was inactive for the Eagles' win over the Carolina Panthers. Safety Chris Prosinski, who signed last week, played in Wolff's place.

Wolff was not on the injury report entering the game, so he was believed to be a healthy scratch. Coach Chip Kelly has offered only lukewarm endorsements this season when asked about Wolff, who could not beat Nate Allen for a starting job during the summer.

With Allen injured last week, Wolff struggled in a win over the Houston Texans. The Eagles signed Prosinski the next day to help on special teams, which was his role in Monday's win.

"He's doing a really nice job. He's a sharp kid," Kelly said of Prosinski on Friday. "He's obviously an outstanding special teams player. I think that is the first place you'll probably see where he can make an impact because it's an easier transition from a terminology standpoint."

The other inactives were quarterback Nick Foles, defensive back Jaylen Watkins, offensive lineman Julian Vandervelde, offensive lineman Dennis Kelly, wide receiver Jeff Maehl, and defensive end Taylor Hart.

Matt Tobin started at right guard in place of Todd Herremans. Casey Matthews started at inside linebacker instead of DeMeco Ryans, although Emmanuel Acho rotated into the game. Mark Sanchez started at quarterback in Foles' usual spot. Foles watched the game from the sideline.

Polk returns kicks

The Eagles used Chris Polk as the primary kick returner on Monday instead of Josh Huff, who had played in that role during the previous four games. Huff averaged 22.3 yards on three returns. Polk entered the game with a 40.4-yard average on five returns, including a 102-yard touchdown in Week 3.

Barwin's big year

Linebacker Connor Barwin's 31/2 sacks through nearly three quarters on Monday gave him 101/2 sacks to lead the NFC. The Chiefs' Justin Houston leads the NFL with 12. Barwin's other double-digit sack year was 2011 with 111/2. . . . The Eagles' 31 first-half points were the most since scoring 45 first-half points in a 59-28 win over Washington on Nov. 15, 2010. . . . The Eagles set a franchise record with their ninth non-offensive touchdown this season. . . . Former Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb attended the game in owner Jeffrey Lurie's box.
