Eagles' o-line woes could spell trouble in Indy

Eagles’ injury losses on the offensive line and Andrew Luck running Colts’ offense mean trouble for the Birds.

COLTS (-3) over Eagles

"A horse, a horse! My kingdom for a horse." That was from "Richard III," written by Willie Shakespeare a little over 400 years ago, but you could just see Chip Kelly in the office saying the same thing about an offensive lineman. Don't wanna be Debbie Downer, but last season's 10-7 record was accomplished with the same offensive linemen for all 17 games. The o-line is a huge part of Kelly's "speed of light" offense, but All-Pro left guard Evan Mathis is gone for 8 weeks, while tackle Allen Barbre is gone for the season. Add in three more games of tackle Lane Johnson's suspension, and Nick Foles might have some issues. On the other side of the ball, the Birds have to deal with Andrew Luck, and his ridiculous 14-3 record at home since taking over in Indy. This is not high on my wagering board, so I'll make a light play to the Colts.

TITANS (-3.5) over Cowboys

You have a QB who is coming off back surgery and looked - well, let's say pathetic - and an owner/GM who is being sued for sexual assault. Jerry Jones claims the pictures, which were all over the internet, misrepresented him. OK, JJ, whatever. Don't really care what JJ does with his down time, but all this noise has to affect Dallas. Last week, we picked Tennessee and talked about Jake Locker, and mentioned that when he was healthy at the start of last season, the Titans went 3-1 and Locker completed 62 percent of his passes for 721 yards, with six TDs and no interceptions. Well, he's healthy and he's at it again. Sunday, against Kansas City, Locker completed passes to eight players, hitting on 22 of 33 for 266 yards and two touchdowns. He posted a 111.4 rating that was his third-best mark in 19 career starts and second only to Peyton Manning in the AFC in Week 1. Gotta drop this into the Best Bet category.

VIKINGS (+3) over Patriots

"Big Trouble in Little China" was a sweet action film with my man Kurt Russell. Change the venue to Foxborough, and put Bill Belichick in for Russell. The "Hoodie" traded away All-Pro tackle Logan Mankins, and it really hurt Tom Brady and the offense. Belichick rarely makes a bad move, but this was a doozy. And now the Patriots have to face an old friend, Matt Cassel, who will salivate at the prospect of tasting a plate of revenge from the team the gave him the heave-ho.

PACKERS (-8) over Jets

Laying a snowman with Green Bay is a big ask, but then again, you have Aaron Rodgers, and he's a big stud. Rodgers was held under 200 yards passing in the opener (189 exactly), and if you think the Jets are gonna hold him under 200, step into my office and let's make a wager. The New Yorkers have won only seven of the last 25 games on the road, and even when the tundra is not frozen, it's very tough to beat the Pack in Cheese Land.

BRONCOS (-12) over Chiefs

Everyone is gonna look to grab the double-digit underdog, but Kansas City is in big trouble. The Chiefs lost LB Derrick Johnson and tackle Mike DeVito to ruptured Achilles' tendons Sunday. Ouch! Now they have to deal with Peyton Manning and an offense that raced to a 24-0 lead, only to take their foot off the gas and let the Colts in the back door for a cover. The back door is gonna be shut this week, and the Broncs will rumble into the winner's circle.

Saints (-6.5) over BROWNS

Two Brian Hoyers and three Johnny Footballs don't even equal one Drew Brees. Cleveland has only one win in its last 12 games, has covered only one of the last eight, and Brees is 3-0 all time in Cleveland. March with me!

PANTHERS (-2.5) over Lions

With Cam Newton back under center, Carolina should be able to squeeze out a win at home.

BUCCANEERS (-5.5) over Rams

Not thrilled about laying 5.5 with Tampa, but with St. Louis using second- and third-string QBs, and an atrocious 12-44 road record over the last 7 years, gotta jump on the Bucs for a medium to light play.

BILLS (+1) over Dolphins

Which was more impressive? Buffalo winning at Chicago . . . or Miami winning at home? I'll say Buff, and, pick the Bills.

Jaguars (+6) over REDSKINS

With nine straight losses coming into this contest, can't possibly lay half a dozen with Washington.

GIANTS (+2.5) over Cardinals

The New Yorkers looked awful in Detroit, but home cooking has a way of healing all wounds.

BENGALS (-5) over Falcons

Cincy has covered six of the last seven, and will be able to put Atlanta in the rearview mirror.

CHARGERS (+6) over Seahawks

Seattle at home is a monster (18-1 the last two seasons). On the road, not so much (11-8). Rocking the underdog.

RAIDERS (+3) over Texans

Oakland won at Houston last season (28-23), and should be able to post another win, this time at home.

Bears (+7) over 49ERS

Jay Cutler might not be as good as Colin Kaepernick, but he ain't no Tony Romo. Roll with Da Bears plus a TD.
