The bad news keeps coming for the Eagles.

Wide receiver Jeremy Maclin emerged from Sunday's game with a sprain in his AC joint - in his shoulder - and what coach Andy Reid described as a "slight" hamstring strain. Cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie has a high ankle sprain and torn ligaments and was in a walking boot, and offensive lineman King Dunlap suffered a concussion.

If Maclin misses time he would represent the most significant loss. He leads the team in receptions and receiving yards. He didn't finish the game Sunday, and Reid said his shoulder is the bigger problem at this point. The coach did not say if Maclin could be ready for Sunday's game against the Giants.

The most long-term injury appears to be to Rodgers-Cromartie. The cornerback, who returned kickoffs in college but never in the NFL, was hurt while going through the wedge on the opening kickoff of the second half. He said someone rolled up on his ankle.

Rodgers-Cromartie had shown increased energy to that point and said he liked the idea of returning kicks.

"It was just an opportunity for me to go out there and make a play," he said. "It felt good having the ball in my hands."

Now it's not clear when he will play next. Joselio Hanson would fill in for him in nickel situations, with Brandon Hughes likely stepping into dime packages.

Dunlap's concussion could create a dilemma on the offensive line. He filled in at left guard Sunday for Evan Mathis, who sat out with a toe sprain. Mathis said Monday he is "getting there" when it comes to getting back onto the field and plans to test his toe Tuesday.

If neither Mathis nor Dunlap can play the Eagles would probably turn to Jamaal Jackson, who can play guard or center. Center Jason Kelce can also play guard. The only other guard on the roster is rookie Julian Vandervelde, who has yet to play a snap this season.

Reid did not give an update on safety Nate Allen (concussion).

Reid backs Castillo

Reid backed Juan Castillo Monday, saying the embattled defensive coordinator will continue calling plays for the team.

Asked why the Eagles used a variety of schemes instead of simply matching up cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha on star wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, Reid explained, "That's how we worked it. That's how we went about it."

Reid said he recognizes what the team needs to work on.

"We're close, obviously, if we're ahead in the fourth quarter," Reid said. Of course, he has not been able to fix the late game collapses yet.

Reid said he believes the team is still unified, though.

"I'm around them, so that's what I feel," he said.

Extra points

Running back LeSean McCoy confirmed that he has rehired agent Drew Rosenhaus after firing him earlier this month. This marks the second time this season McCoy has fired Rosenhaus and then reunited with him. . . . Asked how Nnamdi Asomugha lined up offside late Sunday - drawing a critical penalty that extended a Cardinals' scoring drive - Reid attributed it to "the human element" and said Fitzgerald lined up deeper than usual.
